Re: Jeff Rutter

I'd prefer that we don't hire him. He never appeared to really do anything on the sidelines.

Re: Coach Morgan

Just go back and watch the Baylor game. Baylor won something like 4 games and damn near hung a hundy on Wayne's stellar D. Just saying.... We have differing perspectives.

Yes. Your thinking about Stinson's worse games while I am looking at his whole body of work, I guess. Curtis definitely had a couple just awful games for ISU (Nebraska comes to mind) but was a great Cyclone and had far more great games than terrible ones.

Re: Coach Morgan

chengyusen- There are plenty of low and mid major head coaches that are good x's and o guys who would make the jump to high d-1 assistant for a variety of reasons. Also fired high d-1 coaches that may be good in some areas but lack in others (like GMac would have been in the next year or two had he still been in Ames). Fred may also turn out to be just fine with the x's and o's, I just think his obvious strengths should be his ability to recruit off his NBA experience as a player and in management, and his ability to relate and build relationships with players because of his extensive playing experience and charisma.

Re: Jeff Rutter

He was offered a job at CU and turned it down.
He was not offered a coaching staff position by Hoiberg.

It appears he will remain on staff at ISU in some fashion to fill ou the remainder of his contract. I suspect he'll look for other opportunities while his son finishes high school.

I am extremely shocked he did not go to CU with GMac but getting demoted to Dir of Ops probably didn't help the situation.

Re: Coach Morgan

Ughh... yea i know.... We need more than one guy traveling the world. You think the top teams like Syracuse, Kansas, Kentucky etc use one recruiter? Im not saying bring in Morgan, but i am saying bring in a minority assistant coach that can relate with the players well. Something has been up for the last 4 years and if all these recruits were "TJ's" guys then why did they bail? Maybe TJ was saying things to the guys that made them come here and his word didnt match up with the players when they got here... maybe?

Um...no comment:no:

Re: Coach Morgan

2005 scouting report for Iowa St.

This is one of the most interesting statistical gems I've seen on the KenPom site. In 2005, we had the 8th best defense in the country, and were able to force a ton of turnovers. Yet we had only the 127th best offense in the country, and that number doesn't take in to account the increased offensive production we should have had from forcing so many turnovers on defense. We also basically played a 6-man rotation. And we didn't win a game for almost a whole month in January, meaning we finished 9-2 in Big 12 play. Just a truly fascinating team, looking back.

Hmmm, 8th best defense in the country. But don't confuse the Morgan bashers with facts, it messes up their make believe world.

Re: Jeff Rutter

Feel bad for Rutter, supposedly is a really good friend of Mac's, then gets demoted, and now apparently gets left in the dust. That's the biz I guess.

Bryce - Can you say Robert McFarland he got the same treatment from Chizzle....

Re: Who will be Fred's on bench mentor?

This guy is available.
He is gray haired, has head coaching experience, fits the criteria

Re: Jeff Rutter

I highly doubt that Rutter moving to Director of Basketball Operations was McDermott's idea. I suspect there was pressure from above to swizzle the staff.

McDermott wanted to take him to Creighton as an assistant.

And with the "8th best defense in the country" and supposed "superior coaching" we somehow managed to lose 6 games in a row, which included losses to ****-poor K-State and Colorado and mediocre Missouri and Xavier teams, lost to mediocre Nebraska and aTm teams later in the season, and earlier in the season lost to UNI - you know, the team that the Morgan supporters often spout that is a team that "ISU should never lose to". In fact, with this "8th best team in the country" and "superior coaching" we managed to only win 19 games that season.

But yeah, don't confuse the Morgan supporters with facts, it messes up their make believe world...

Re: Coach Morgan

jdoggivjc- I never said Morgan was a superior coach, just better than some people will give him credit for. His accomplishments at ISU like 3 of 3 winning seasons, 4 top 10 wins and 4 post season wins were pretty good, especially compared to our last coach. Sorry about giving you more facts.

Alright, alright, we get it....you hate Wayne Morgan and refuse to give him any sort of credit whatsoever. I think the truth lies somewhere in between on the spectrum; he is a better coach than the Wayne haters think and not quite as good as his supporters claim.

How about this? Since WM hasn't been our coach now for five years and is now two coaches removed from Fred Hoiberg, can those who love him and those who hate him please just stop starting threads involving him already? Let. It. GO!!!!!!
