Great news. Still worried but my Avatar has been officially upgraded from Rainy to Partly Cloudy. Go Cyclones!!!
It is unfortunate that we had to lose Nebraska and Colorado to get this done. Two long time opponents of us are gone. If Beebe would have been more pro-active and done this a couple years ago, it would have been better. We are NOT better w/out Nebraska and CU. but over all, if it is true and the big12 stays, I am happy.
Differences in revenue for schools is still based on TV appearances. i.e. Texas & OU get more of the pie b/c they are on TV more. However if ISU has a very strong year they will be on TV more and make more $.
How can you argue with Texas? They were making less money than a lower tier Big 10 school. Honestly...just think about that. It is sad that they had to come off as the greedy guys here when the Big 12 commissioner should have been looking out for the ENTIRE conference the last few years. This was something that we knew would happen at some time..I just have a hard time being leary of Texas. They did what they had to do, we are along for the ride and now we have more $$.
With NU and CU gone, shouldn't the rest of us end up on TV more? Thus helping to level out the revenue?
I don't think this deal happens with nebraska in the picture. They also have a sense of entitlement and would steal from the pot. Iowa State's cut would be significantly smaller with these two.
I'd be really surprised if we're on TV much more than we already are. At least until we start winning more.
Obviously, we'd love to have the deals that the SEC and Big 10 have, but we don't have the footprint to manage that. If you compare the Big 12 TV deal to the other conferences, it doesn't look too bad. If the TV deal improves, so much the better.
Through all this realignment craziness, I've come to the opinion that isn't that the Big 12 has a horrible TV deal. Its just that the SEC and Big 10 have crazy good TV deals, and we're comparing ourselves to the wrong people.
I do agree. Texas just kept wanting more and the commisioner couldn't say no. I know where you are coming from.
Perhaps I should explain myself a little bit further. Celebratory (in terms of ISU's viewpoint) would have been a fully-intact Big 12 (or just having to replace Colorado) or our own personal invite to the Big 10. That being said, the conference didn't get out of this unscathed - original Big 8 influence on this conference has been reduced from this conference by 2 members. That is not a good thing for ISU. Like I said, I am grateful that this deal got done, but I am far from celebratory.
I'll take $14 million, but I'm really hoping all of our games our on TV.
Since the Big 12 used to show 5 every weekend, we should be set. Plus, once the Longhorn Network comes into play, that's 4 games for the rest of the Networks.
