First, that was from a jaded columnist from Providence who was bitter about the conference possibly spreading west.

Second, if there really was an offer from the Big East in the works, and the projection of ~$15 million shared equally among all members was legit - funny how 12 hours after everyone gets done celebrating it turns out THIS would have been the better offer. Funny how not 6 hours ago everyone was saying that getting screwed over by Texas wasn't a big deal...

I feel the same way. Knowing what I know now, if that Big East offer was at all accurate, then I would have rather jumped.

I agree, there wasn't much of an option for us. Still, if there was any hope of us going to the Big East, I would have taken it. We are getting SCREWED. No more financial benefit for at least 4-5 years. There may be no conference then. Now, TX/A&M/OU are getting ALL of the penalty fees from CU and NU. This is a temporary fix until Texas gets their BEVO network off the ground, and then the conference will fall again.

Do you think they are going to show football on the BEVO network? The BEVO network is for their non-revenue sports, coaches shows, and non-conference men's basketball games against Texas State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Every Texas football game is picked up nationally, they are not going to show football games on the BEVO unless it is a replay of a game.

You must have missed the part where there is no new tv contract and most likely won't be for 4 years. So we split Colorado's revenue and Nebraska's revenue..... WAIT... I bet those 5 AD's just wet themselves and gave that all to Texas, Texas A&M, and OU as well. If we stay in this BS version of the Big XII we are not going to be allowed to compete at ALL!!!!!! Texas will make sure of that and so will their little stooge Beebe. What a crock of ****.

Now I'm with you, knowing the deets of the "TV Deal".

Someone care to summarize what happened here? Doesn't...sound...good.

Basically, everything we were celebrating late yesterday and early today was based on false premises.

1. Nebraska's and Colorado's buyouts are going to Texas, A&M, and OU ONLY

2. There isn't a TV deal in place - everything is based on estimates on what MAY happen after 2012

3. We might not be seeing any additional revenues for at least 5 years

Want a summary?

Harry Block: Keep your chin up. You know she wanted to give you some, don't you?
Ira Kane: Were you even in that courtroom?
Harry Block: Getting barbecued like baby back ribs? It's all foreplay, baby.
[they return to their lab, to find the door broken in, and all their work stolen]
Ira Kane: Oh, we've been hit!
Harry Block: Forget the foreplay. We just got screwed!

Nothing really changed at all except members can start their own networks.

Would be nice for JP to be on the phone w/KU, KSU, and Mizzou about doing something regionally.

We won't make any more $ at all until Nebrasks and CU leave, and we'll have our games on TV.

I really wish the "ISU, KU, KSU, MU" would try to strike a deal with OU, OSU...then bring in Tt and Baylor after a deal was brokered. Hang A&M and UT out to dry, create a new BIG 8.

I don't get why that couldn't happen. Those 8 schools, plus 2 or 4 more would make a reputable conference that would be sure to have a BCS bid. I don't get why you can't tell Texas and AtM to go to the Pac 10 if they want and start a new conference with everyone who has gotten systematically screwed over.

Re: Texas, A&M, OU will get all the buyout money

Seeing reports that we have all signed over our buy out money to Texas, A & M, and OU.
Don't get me wrong. I am happy with our current deal, but it seems like this move is a little excessive by the have's, against the have not's.

I am interested in hearing what the case was for signing over these fees.

From what I heard at the press conference, Beebe said that the 5 orphan shcools offered to let UT, A&M and OU have all the penalty money. Then he said that this wasn't really the issue for UT, A&M, and OU, and I don't think he every said concretely that the penalty money would all go to these three schools.

This is NOT true.

I would bet that KU, K State, Missou, ISU are still lucrative to the Big East to expand.

More credibility to a football conference that is lacking some and more power to the most powerful basketball conference.

If they can find a deal that can pay us what we make now, bolt.

Summary:

No increase in TV revenue for at least 4 years,
$17 million average is just an estimate, not commitments
No one is prevented from leaving league beyond there public statements of staying
All the exit fee money goes to OU, UT, & ATM,
It isn't clear if the larger share from having 2 less schools is also allocated to the three above

No wonder the five were having a contingency plan meeting last night in KC and I am quite certain they weren't having celebratory drinks. That said JP & GG will have to put positive spin on this

I knew we were bending over, but I didn't know we were bending over that far. No exit cash from NU and CU?! Good God, I hope the the Benedict Arnold's don't have to pay a single penny now.
