Man, this sucks for the MWC! Just when they thought they were really taking a step up.

I could see them trying to add Fresno State now. Nevada is even more of a possibility I would think.......Nevada and Boise State have been rivals for years. Still......not good to lose Utah.....kind of washes out the Boise State addition.

I would think Fresno St would go in before Nevada. Boise has been rivals with both, and Fresno's national respect is much greater than Nevada's.

This really puts a hurt on the MWC. I wish the Big 12(10) would get proactive while the MWC is rocked by this news. BYU and TCU would be great additions to the conference. I know it's all about the money these days, but it looks like every major conference in the US is thinking expansion is a good idea while our conference is content on sustaining 10 after losing 2. I think the AQ is a big enough pull that both schools would jump at the idea and the conference would pick up two major TV markets.

"short of something really silly like a 20 team league. "

This may not be silly at all. If they would go to a 24 team conference it would allow for two 12 team divisions east and west. That most likely would assuredly guarantee the long term viability of ISU athletics, as we would be included, and best of all it could keep in place all the traditional matchups of the big 12 and PAC 10. It also would allow for new rivalrys.

When is it going to sink in that TCU is NOT a good addition to the conference and nobody in the conference wants them because first they'll dilute the payout that the rest of the schools receive and there will be even fewer Texas recruits for the rest of the conference? If the Big 12 is going to go back to 12, it has to do so intelligently. Arkansas and LSU would be flat-out coups. BYU is intelligent because it's the "Notre Dame of Mormons" and has a national following. Louisville, CSU, and maybe Memphis because they add new markets which the Big 12 TV market can expand to. TCU is a horrible, emotional choice because it doesn't expand the TV market, decreases everyone else's share of revenues, and causes a drain on the Texas talent pool. No thanks.

Why all the TCU hate? First, I was staying within the MWC because of the news about Utah. The schools you've mentioned aren't affected by the move of Utah. Second, TCU sits in a town called Fort Worth. The Metroplex has 13,000,000 people living in it. Don't know what you're talking about as far as TV viewership. TCU added to the conference would be a huge boost to the university and I can't imagine rivalry games between them and the other Texas schools wouldn't bolster their popularity within the Metroplex. SMU is a great example (before they got the death penalty and the SWC folded). Since they stopped playing the big named schools they've dropped off the map, but in their day SMU football was huge. I think TCU in the Big 12 would have the same results.

You want to know where the fallacy exists in that argument? It's the same reason why ISU won't ever get an invite to the Big 10 - the VAST MAJORITY of those 13,000,000 people living in the Metroplex are already covered by Texas, A&M, and, to a lesser extent, Texas Tech. I'd say the combination of Texas and A&M fans in the Metroplex outnumber TCU fans by around 100-1. Not to mention that 1 fan out of 100 is already covered by whatever TV contracts that are or will be in place. TCU doesn't give the Big 12 the Metroplex because the Big 12 ALREADY HAS the Metroplex! Or, in case you forgot, the Big 12 offices are in Dallas, any future Big 12 football championship will be played in the JerryDome in Arlington, etc.

I like TCU - I really do. I was cheering for them a lot last year. But quit pretending that they give the Big 12 anything that the Big 12 doesn't already have.

And by the way, the only reason why SMU was huge and "won" a national title was because they WERE paying their players. If every small Texas school was playing by the rules, Texas and A&M would have owned that conference every single year.

pretty sure we already own a town called Fort Worth tv wise. TCU adds nothing except another team to increase texas influence if thats possible and take our recruits that now would have another BCS team to play for in their home state. You TCU fans need to think about ISU first before you speak.

Good for them - their relevance in all three nationally-recognized sports (football and men's and women's basketball) has earned them this.
