I can see your point, but jdogg does have a point in that if America needs sports to move faster and have new rules just so they can enjoy it, even though the rest of the world already does, then yeah, it sort of is just "dumbing it down for Americans"

So because the "rest of the world" enjoys someting that most Americans do not, the Americans are dumb? Honest question, do you see the logical flaws in your statement?

Soccer is about the execution and build up, not so much how many goals are scored. If every sport in the world had to be changed to satisfy the American need of instant gratification, and oversimplification to just scoring, that's a little preposterous.

You didn't answer the question. Are you standing behind the "dumb" comment?

Additionally, I see nothing simple in the strategy required to score in football, hockey, basketball, etc. That's another pretty out there assumption on your part.

When Americans have to change the rules for a sport in order to understand that sport that the rest of the world enjoys just the way it is, then yeah, it makes Americans "dumb" - at least in terms of that sport. If that gives you the opinion that I'm an elitist, well, hey - I'm not the one trying to change the rules of a sport to fit my own ideals...

There is nothing wrong with not liking the sport. There are plenty of American sports I don't enjoy, but if any culture expects a sport that is widely enjoyed by others to be changed to fit their standards of entertainment, then yeah, it is dumb. It would be the same if the British expected American football to be changed to reflect their values of entertainment.

Americans have proven over the past century that they don't care about soccer. The vast majority of the popoulation couldn't care less about whether soccer changes it's rules. It's soccer people ******** about why Americans don't like the sport and Americans responding as to how they migth enjoy the sport that led to this discussion. Soccer fans responding that Americans are dumb only proves one thing, they are so senesitive as to there own self-image that they lash out with disturbingly childish name calling in order to make themselves feel good. I could not care less if you or anybody else likes the same sports that I do. I guess I could come on this board and try to brow-beat everybody into liking surfing, volleyball, and hurling. Then again, I feel just fine about myself without doing so.

The last thing I would call you is an "elitist".

The American "culture" is not expecting anybody to change anything. The question somebody brought up was why Americans don't like the sport and the conversation naturally led to how it could come to like it. I don't care enough to expect anybody to change anything about the sport.

Really. Then explain why the ratings for the USA-Ghana matchup were comparable to the NBA Finals or the World Series, two sports that Americans have "historically cared about":

USA-Ghana Ratings Compare Very Favorably to the NBA Finals and the 2009 World Series | The Big Lead

Will the interest die down? Probably a little bit. But indicators have already shown that MLS has seen an increase in attendance and a TV ratings boost from this World Cup. And just because this current generation of Americans don't care about soccer doesn't mean that you're going to be able to prevent your children from caring.

Pretty sure the post Jdogg responded to was about a "shot clock" being implemented.. aka changing the sport to meet American ideals. If you want to have a logical discussion about why Americans don't like soccer, then surely you can take jdogg calling a certain option "dumbing down".

Also, somewhat ironic that you are accusing him of being sensitive, and yet, you are the one jumping in a thread about a sport you "don't care" about to defend American ideals.

Isn't it ironic that the people that care the least about soccer are the ones that just seem to have to proclaim "IT SUCKS" the loudest...

A couple things:

1. Now you say Americans like soccer, does that mean they aren't dumb?

2. Loop and play again in four years. A once every four years spike in tv ratings does not mean anything significant. Socer supporters have been saying the same thing for as long as I casn recall, this generation is really going to pick up the sport! I'll believe it when it I see it. MLS, MISL, NASL all claimed to be the organization to succeed in the USA. I guess we'll see with MSL, but I wouldn't bet on it. As an aside, I don't care if it does or doesn't. I have nothing against the sport itself.

3. Preventing our children? You are too funny, now it's a conspiracy against soccer! Secret meetings must be going on in hidden bunkers to destroy the sport! Call your elected official, start a commission to investigate......

I never said it sucks. I beg you to quote me where I said that. Are you really this incapable of following a conversation?
