Looks great.

This is the size of kid that ISU needs to get. I would give him a couple of years before he sees the playing field.

Had offers from Colorado State and Nevada.

6'7 230lbs. Future TE or beef him up and turn him into George Selvie!

The first thing I thought of was George Selvie!

Selvie was an Offensive Tackle recruit and in Wally Burnhams system he turned into a draft pick at DE. If Irving has a good work ethic I hope we can see even some of those results.

At the fundraiser at Albaugh,Inc. Tues. night CPR introduced all the coaches and noted that Bobby Elliot was the only non-attendee because he was back in Ames with this kid. Rhoads was VERY excited about Elliot having brought this kid in from Calif. If you do not realize a kid at 6'7" weighting 230 prior to his Senior year is not capable of adding 45/70 lbs. by the time he is 20/21, you have noit been paying attention.

230 is fine for a HS DE. If he's 230 now, he'll probably be 245 by the time he reports. At 6'7", he should be able to gain weight fairly rapidly. By the time he is a RS FR, don't be surprised if he's 255+.

Hopefully he's the next Reggie Hayward.

Only 6 sacks? I'm guessing this dude is a project...6'7".. 230 lbs. If he's not explosive enough at the DE spot he'd probably make one heck of a tight end! Or not if he can't catch.

with that size I'm guessing he's projecting as a strong side end more than a rush end.

6'7 230 is bigger than any DE on our roster right now.

I'm surprised nobody has said 'turn him into an OT' yet, but I expect it to come.

The kid is only 16 for crying out loud!

OT was my first thought as well. 6'7" 230 is huge IMO. He could add 20lbs and be a DE or he could add 70lbs and be an OT. He is very young and looks like he has the frame to become a few different positions before he makes it to campus.
I wonder if the staff liked his athleticism and size and figured we will find a place for him when the time comes, based on our needs.

He may have only had 6 sacks, but it did say he missed games due to injury.
Welcome aboard, young man. You're going to love it here.

So are people thinking DT here instead of DE?

I think it depends on his speed and quickness and if he can keep his quickness after he gains weight. If he plays Strong Side End at 6'7 260 and is still quick, he is worth more than your average DT in my mind.

You have to consider the age with this kid, not the grade in school. 6'-7" 230# at sixteen? He's a monster. This kid could be 270-80# after a redshirt year. I think he will indeed play DE.

I could be wrong but I thought jason Berryman was 220 his freshman year and he was decent.

230 is a little low assuming he will grow some more. Expect him to come in at 7' 1" at a minimum.................

Kidding aside, welcome to Iowa State!!!

Did a google search about a month ago, looking for any videos of David Irving. Did not find any video, but did see that he is 18 (not 16).

Christian French from CR Kennedy is a 4 star DE recruit, and he's 6'6" 218 lbs. So I don't think 230 lbs means anything at this point.

I'm very excited to have him aboard!
