Obviously not a popular idea on this site. Fair enough. But I think some of you are going to have to think outside the box if you want this series to continue.

Good god. How would you know? Are you Kirk Ferentz, or do you work with Gary Barta, and have some secret, inside info?
If not, you're just a spectator, like the rest of us.

With the way things are moving, it's not going to be business as usual with this series.

Count me as someone who could care less if the Iowa series is dropped.

There is no need to "think outside the box" on this one. It is either a home-and-home arrangement, or Iowa State finds a new dance partner. Make no difference to me...

Agreed. I'm honestly rather sick of Hawk fans and would not mind if the series was cancelled.

I understand the "let's not move the instate game out of state" argument. But if the game is not going to be played every year, I just thought a neutral site might make some sense. I don't see Iowa giving up a home game just to play in Ames. After reading Barta's comments today, I am even more convinced of it. So, I figured it would be more beneficial for ISU to play somewhere like Soldier Field than to come and play at Kinnick every other year.
I agree, I really think the series is done after next season, I could see playing the game every other year, but keep it in the state of Iowa, in no day during the year is there more tailgating and beer drinking in Iowa then when the two schools play.

I actually like the idea. As far as the taking $ out of the state. I'll ask this? How much money is actually spent in state for this game that would be spent out of state?

With the Iowa-ISU game I don't think there are a huge amount of people that spend the night in Ames or Iowa City (I may be wrong) for that game. After that the next biggest moneymaker is probably ticket sales for the teams (they may even get an increase by hosting it in larger pro venues). After that would it be tailgating supplies? I'm not sure how many people buy there supplies at destination. I know I would tend to buy my stuff before heading to the game.

I would however think that there would be political pressure to leave the game in the state of Iowa.

I would not mind playing Iowa in Kansas City of Chicago every few years if the series can't continue in it's current form. It's better than not getting to do it.
What about all the dollars that are spent when fans hit the local Hy-Vee at 6 a.m. to buy beer, food, and tailgating supplies? Or the amount of money spent on eating out at restaurants after the game? The amount of money this game brings in to Iowa City and Ames goes far beyond how much the universities make off of it.

+1 maybe every other year, it will eventually come back when all this reallignment stuff ends, but for now let the two programs build themselves up to at least compete in their own conference.

If Iowa will not agree to a home and home then screw the game. The sense of arrogance from hawkeye nation is laughable at times.
I like the game and look forward to it every year but Pollard and ISU do not need to bend over for the almighty hawkeyes to keep the series going. If it works, great. If not, I'm not going to lose any sleep.

Do you know how much money having this game outside the state would cost both school and business in this state.

Exactly KSU did not go to the Big 12 championship games and build their program by playing Florida State, Penn State, Ohio State and USC, they won by scheduling the Upper Iowa's of the world. Pollard and CPR have to build the program first with this new Big 12 setup and then look towards what would benefit the state of Iowa not vise versa.

First off, I'm pretty sure boards like this are meant for speculating. I've appreciated the people who have given constructive critisism to this idea. I just assume the one's who can only name call don't have any original ideas anyway. So their opinions don't really bother me.

Second, like I said already, reading Barta's comments pretty much confirmed my OPINION that this game is not going to go on business as usual.

"If we both go to nine games and if we both get into a situation where one of us would lose out on seven home games, that would probably trigger a tough discussion.â€￾

Now that's not a confirmation quote by any means. But it does show that some tough decisions may have to be made. And it shows that there could be some pretty large hurdles involved with that decision. While I am 100 percent confident that Iowa would never give up that 7th home game just to play at ISU, I wouldn't be surprised if they would go for something like playing the game at Soldier Field. Lots of boosters there, bigger stage, good recruiting ground, ect.

I know this is a little off topic here but why would the big ten want to go to a 9 game conference schedule? Every other 12 team conference plays an 8 game conference schedule. Why change a format that works?

Because they are the big 10. They do nothing like anyone else.

All kidding aside, if the series is dropped it is because of Iowa. Barta's comments were misleading when he spoke of "Jamie wanting seven home games too". JP did not say that, Barta said it for JP (which happened to help Barta's arguement). IMO ISU will keep a home and home series with Iowa and find a payoff school to make up the home game for the years of an away game at Iowa. Iowa will not. If the big 10 goes to 9 games Iowa will find a way to get out of the series. They can not stand to go 5-5 to ISU for another decade.

I was thinking the same thing with the Nebraska game, only in Winnipeg. Thoughts?

I'm game. I have free lodging and the new CanadInns Stadium (home of the Blue Bombers) is going to be **** McGee.

I actually brought this up in another thread but wanted to get some more opinions on it. Let's say that, hypothetically, the Iowa/ISU annual game comes to a halt because of the extended conference schedule. Do you think it would be possible to play at someplace like Soldier Field or Arrowhead every 2 or 3 years?

I think there's enough passion between both fanbases that we wouldn't have too much trouble filling up any stadium. And you have to figure that Chicago or KC would love to see Iowans invading their cities and emptying their wallets. Also, you would be talking about some epic tailgating.

Chicago is an awesome town, too. But, I don't like yanking the revenue away from Iowa City and Ames. Those towns are full of great businesses who suport these teams 365 days, every year. They deserve these weekends. It would not be right to deny them.

To answer your question, the new Big Ten Conference is obviously going to split up into divisions. By playing nine games instead of eight, the conference believes that they can preserve some of the rivalries that may get lost in only having an eight game conference schedule. Basically they want to prevent what happened to the Oklahoma and Nebraska rivalry once the Big XII was formed.
