I actually brought this up in another thread but wanted to get some more opinions on it. Let's say that, hypothetically, the Iowa/ISU annual game comes to a halt because of the extended conference schedule. Do you think it would be possible to play at someplace like Soldier Field or Arrowhead every 2 or 3 years?

I think there's enough passion between both fanbases that we wouldn't have too much trouble filling up any stadium. And you have to figure that Chicago or KC would love to see Iowans invading their cities and emptying their wallets. Also, you would be talking about some epic tailgating.

Dumb, Dumb, Dumb!:sad::no::no::no:

The game will never end as long as they are state universities.

Well while you're at it maybe you should move the Notre Dame vs Michigan game to North Dakota.

What about all the dollars that are spent when fans hit the local Hy-Vee at 6 a.m. to buy beer, food, and tailgating supplies? Or the amount of money spent on eating out at restaurants after the game? The amount of money this game brings in to Iowa City and Ames goes far beyond how much the universities make off of it.

Exactly. There are a lot of businesses making money off of this game. Moving it to Chicago (or anywhere that's not the current home-and-home) is ridiculous.
If we had an NFL stadium in Des Moines, maybe that's another story. But we don't, and we're not about to build one.

What is up with the threads this afternoon? Chizik v. Gmac for the thousandth time? This wacko idea? Are there more threads like this floating around?

Well, considering Oklahoma has to play all there Texas series games at the Cotton Bowl in Texas it's not a horrible idea......

But yeah, it's a horrible idea.

No way the rivalry gets moved to a neutral site out of state.

And I really think the rivalry will continue. There really isn't a good reason to end the rivalry.

Moving our rivalry out of state is silly.

With the upcoming unbalanced schedule in the Big 12-2, I can see adjusting the CyHawk HOME game to the years we only have 4 home conference games.

That's a little different, though - it's halfway in between Austin and Norman and Dallas people couldn't give one iota about college ball - I used to live there and was driven insane by Cowboys, America's Team, the hole for God to watch - agh!

So, that game is pretty much like a fair sideshow - oh wait, it IS a fair sideshow.. :)

ISU/Iowa could play in Des Moines - that would make more sense, but no stadium...

You guys are acting like I brought this up for a way to improve the series or something. This cannot be that difficult for you to understand. Of course nobody wants to bring the game out of state. What's that Tombstone quote?? "It's like I'm playin cards with my sister's kids or something." Wow.

One more time, I brought this up to generate ideas on possible ways this series can continue if the worst case scenario unfolds. Those of you who are saying this series is going to go on business as usual really have little understanding of the obstacles that are going to be faced in the next few years. I definitely wasn't implying that this would make the rivalry better.

All I hear on this site is how Iowa is scared of ISU and that's why we want to back out of the series and blah blah blah(even though we have pretty much righted the ship after getting killed those 5 straight years). We've already seen an extended break in the rivalry before so it's kind of funny reading posts of people saying this series will never end.

I agree it would be ideal if there were a neutral site instate to play the game. Unfortunately, there isn't. And I assume ISU wouldn't want to travel to Kinnick every season or vice versa. So if I had to choose between ending the series completely or playing at neutral field, I would pick the neutral field.

Iowa isn't scared of ISU, or vice versa. Neither school can afford 6 home games, though.
