So I go into the Fareway in South Ankeny tonight and they have a display with chips and Hawkeye crap all over it.

I have not known Fareway to be biased, as usually they have both ISU and Iowa stuff. I spend 600 a month at this Fareway and may be done.

What are others opinions of whether they are unbiased or not?

I will be glad when the Hy Vee goes in on the south side.

UPDATE: Thanks to Fareway manager Doug, they have taken down the Hawkeye display until they have Iowa State flags etc to go with it.

I definitely prefer HyVee over Fareway. Other than the meat department, they have them beat in every way.

IMHO Hy Vee, the worlds largest Kum and Go stores, except no gas. Overpriced. People are locked into those stores out of lazy habit. "It" is all store location and convenience only. If you don't mind spending more than you need to, go ahead and shop there, it is an Iowa company, and a free country.

Fail. You don't get to live in a 'burb and have a "south side".

Lets not get into this Hy-Vee versus Fareway thing again. I'll summarize the last battle solved.

Fareway's are usually cheaper but that is because they have cheaper items. If you stick to the food isles the prices are within cents of each other. If you want to save money, use coupons.

Fareway has a better meat dept. Hy-Vee has better everything else (seafood, produce, floral, non-food,etc)

I should have left the HyVee comment off the original post. I was not trying to compare them by price, quality, but HyVee is fairly unbiased regarding Hawkeyes and Cyclones.

When I was a youngster I worked at 4 different Hy-Vee's and I can tell you that in the DM metro we would have never put up an end display of one team without putting up the other. On the other hand when I worked in Cedar Falls the 2 teams would be Iowa and UNI.

Most of the time when you see these displays they are beer or chip displays that the vendors put up but they don't want to offend anyone.

Maybe they haven't gotten to the ISU one yet, that is kind of a questionable reason to stop shopping an Iowa company. Of course I don't completly hate Iowa or
there fans.

I saw a hawkeye decal on a car while I was driving the other day, I've not known roads to be biased but I may be done driving on them after this.

Except for price -- Fareway usually is 20-50% lower than HyVee. Running 24/7, plus all those add-on services put a strong markup on prices at HyVee.

You buy your food depending on if the store you shop at supports the Hawks or the Cyclones? I would much rather shop somewhere that has a wide variety and at good prices.

Also, try going to any Cedar Rapids Hy Vee, you won't find much Cyclone stuff. So both franchises show favorites depending on the market.

Apparently, I do as I don't want my money to go to a Hawkeye store. I am ok if it is fair...that is all I want.

By the way, my dentist is even a donor of ISU...that was a little harder to find.
Does one display make a store a "Hawkeye store"?

whoa! Can you cite a source for those numbers?!?:err:

The markup on groceries is very slim....there is NO way any store has that type of difference in markup over another.

I'm willing to pay more if a store supports the Cyclones.

People seem too question why so many Iowans that didn't go to Iowa or Iowa State support the Hawkeyes vs. the Cyclones. I think alot has to do with the availablilty of merchandise and how much Hawkeye stuff is displayed in stores, etc. Being a Cyclone fan is not a popular as being a Hawkeye fan. I try to balance this by spending my money with unbiased stores.
