I also had a surprisingly good time in IC. I figured there would be more trash talking, but the Hawkeye tailgate we were at was great.

Yeah we had a great time tailgating. And I will admit, the tailgating in IC has MUCH better scenery than the tailgating in Ames.

It's amazing how nice people get when they kick the crap out of you a few years in a row.

I had a similar experience yesterday in Iowa City. I was with Hawkeye fans, wearing my Cyclone stuff. I expected some not-so-friendly words thrown my way at some point, but didn't hear one. There was some good natured ribbing before the game, but afterwards it was mostly quiet. Like me and every other Cyclone AND Hawkeye fan, I think everyone was stunned at how one-sided the game was this year.

The only incident I witnessed was after the game. As we were walking from the stadium to our lot, a trashed (and trashy!) Iowa fan who looked to be around 25 was with his girlfriend and another couple. He was yelling "I-S-SUCKS, I-S-SUCKS" and "Go back to Lames Clowns" to a group of ISU fans in front of us. His poor girlfriend was apologizing to everyone, and the other couple looked equally embarrassed.

The funny (and refreshing) thing was when about 5 different Iowa fans yelled stuff like "Shut the F--- up d-bag" and "They'll go back to AMES and you can go back to your trailer down by the river." Everyone within earshot laughed and/or applauded. It was nice to see.

All in all, I enjoyed my experience there.

Going to Iowa City this weekend made me even more happy and proud to be a Cyclone.

And this weekend made me even more happy and proud to be a Hawkeye and have a real stadium and a football team that really is a football team!

Just got back too and I had a very similar experience. Today was the first time I had tailgated in IC since 2006. The fans were much nicer and nothing was thrown at me. Nobody even yelled trash-talk at me. It was weird.

It probably had to do with most people not viewing ISU as a threat to beat Iowa, but it was still a nice change from 2006.

I had a great time too - many friendly Hawkeye fans.
I believe your last sentence is exactly it - we are a not threat.

Was that guy by the softball complex? We ran into a very similar guy. He was trying to impress his GF, and it was just two of us walking back to the car. For a bit I think he was going to try and pick a fight, but as we got closer he realized that each of us outweighed him by about 75 lbs. He toned down after we stopped to talk to him.

I also didn't experience anything more then some good-natured ribbing, but I was sitting in the heart of the long time season ticker holder sessions where I'd imagie the more level-headed and classy fans sit.

I must say I quite enjoyed riding the Hawkeye Express train from Coralville to the stadium. That was a great idea. Bring back the Dinkey!!

All I can say is that I hate Iowa City and 80% of the people around us where nothing but a-holes to us. And we did nothing but sit there and watch the game. One guy right behind us kept trying to start stuff by yelling go hawks in one of my friends ears. His girlfrend begged us not to beat him up. The we got hackled the whole way park to our car which it seemed 10 miles away from the stadium. People were yelling stuff at us and trying to start stuff with us and none of use were small guys. And it wasn't like we were asking for it we were just walking minding our own business wanting to just get the hell out of that town. Yes Kinnick is a awesome stadium, but it isn't what defines a team and what they can do!!! Once again I hate that f-in town and don't plan a future trip back anytime soon. I'm 30 and too old to get into fights!

I live in Iowa City but am a Cyclone fan. As my wife and I, dressed in Cyclone shirts, were walking up the tunnel to our section a big, bald, fat guy saw us and turned to his wife and loudly said "I wish they would charge Iowa State fans twice what everyone else pays as they do us. Its the only way that ....ing excuse of a University can exist." Real angry dude and was scowling and trying to look bad. We eventually sat a few rows from him and the guy stood the whole game, booed every time ISU made a play of any kind and was giving signals on most plays as if he was a ref, holding, etc. He was a total tool the whole game and I in fact pointed him out to other Iowa fans who sat by us who were acceptable I guess. The only thing I thought odd was when we finally scored all the hawk fans booed-something i thought odd especially considering the score. Then when driving home on Dodge st in a line of traffic, three guys standing in their front yard with their 1969 chey nova and drinking beer saw us in my jeep-cyclone red of course-and started taunting from about 100 ft away "Yea thats right get the f... our of here you clowns, etc." Other than that...................I guess you gotta love the average hawkfan??????????????

Nice hawk fans? All I heard and saw the entire way to my seats was dbags talking *****. Once in my seat, in the middle of the isu section, I see a 290lb hok homer. Honestly never faced the field, instead he was turned around taunting the ISU fans the entire game. And this tops it all, he had a 4"x6" Hayden fry tattoo on his bicep! Not the name Hayden fry, a friggin portrait of fry!!!!! And of course, did even go to college and lives in Ames.

I walked up Melrose to the game and basically the only **** talking I heard was coming from drunk Iowa State fans. Dont act like ISU fans were just innocent here. The funny thing is walking back after the game, those fools were nowhere to be found, which is about right.

From everything I saw and dealt with first hand those that got **** from Iowa fans must have been doing something to get their attention. I've been to the ISU game in IC in 04, 06, 08 and the one on Saturday and I will say in the past Hawk fans were douches but I want to hand it to them this year. Every Hawk fan I came in contact with (along with the ones I came with) was respectful and outside of general ribbing, I never saw any bad actions from them, except maybe getting extremely drunk but I can't fault them for getting their drink on.

The game and atmosphere seemed rather benign to me this year. I really did not notice any trash talking before the game either.

Please when you make stuff up make it more convincing. Your LIE doesn't make the grade. THere is no doubt in my mind there wasn't significant trash talking...However you are a liar.

I have been to at least a dozen game in AMES and have NEVER been treated poorly. EVER! We are all Iowans. No need to be a liar.

Lets be honest here. There are ********* fans of Iowa and ********* fans of Iowa State who make the fan base look bad. I've had bad experiences in Ames before but that doesn't mean I think all Iowa State fans are ********. The dumb****s that try to act tough with beer, those are the real idiots.
