Minnesota's Brewster out after this year.

Folks up here in the cities want Mike Leach to be the next football coach. I can't say I blame them. Money talks.
I don't know if Minnesota is the type of team that could recruit to run a gimmick offense. In any case, that would shake the Big Ten up a little bit if he could make it work.
That would be REALLY interesting to watch. He would probably have to recruit TX and FL for WR talent. I would bet with a throwing offense like that, he could basically have his pick of QBs from the upper midwest after ND and tOSU. OLs would be easy enough to find as most of the teams that they compete against are looking for guys that need to be run blockers first. But the more interesting thing would be to see what that does to the conference. Tiller at Purdue made a huge impact with the passing game a decade ago. I'd imagine Leach would do similar things. He had TT in bowls and contending in a tougher division than what Minny is going to be in. If I were an iowa or Nebraska fan, I'd be hoping that the Gophs screw this up and don't get Leach.
That being said, the Georgia job is going to open up and if they want him, that's a MUCH more appealing job.
This will never happen and DMac will be lucky to get any D1 position.
That happens when you go 56-85 in a watered down Big 12 North and underachieve in spectacular fashion.
Leach still has his lawsuit against Texas Tech going, so I would be surprised if he looked at the job.
It's like a friend of mine said, ever since the Vikings came, nobody gives a **** about Gopher football. If a HS kid is worth anything, he'll go to Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, etc.
Maturi has said in interviews that he wants to hire a "football Tubby Smith". I don't think McCarney really fits the bill for that. Have to think that they'll take a long hard look at Leach or Mangino.
Yes. The entire reason they got rid of Mason was because they were tired of only winning 6-7 games a year and making the low-to-mid level bowl games. They wanted to jump it up to the next level and start thinking about presumably 9-10+ wins per year.
I'm really not sure McCarney fits the bill.
Who ever it is, the Goofs are willing to pay $1 million more than they were paying Brewster and may even offer a 5-7 year extension. Or so I read in the Star Tribune.

I don't see Peterson leaving Boise after watching the Dan Hawkins debacle at Colorado. Ditto for Gary Patterson, if he didn't leave for the K-State job (being a K-State alum & Kansas native), he's not leaving for anything. Leach, as stated above still has his lawsuit against Texas Tech going, and I don't see anybody hiring him until that gets resolved.

I see a lot of pipe dreams in this list. Perhaps Golden Sumlin, or Calhoun would be willing to jump. Maybe Frazier would if the Chilly ship is going down in flames. These have to be last-resorts as the Minnesota AD is on the record for wanting to hire a "big name", which none of these are. As far as everyone else, I doubt it. Minnesota is NOT a better situation than UConn, so I doubt Edsall leaves. Harbaugh isn't going to leave Stanford for the Big 10 unless Team RamRod up in Ann Arbor gets the axe and the Michigan AD comes a-calling. Peterson and Patterson aren't leaving Boise St and TCU, respectively, to take over for that train wreck when they've had better opportunities at a BCS school over the last decade. Perhaps Leach, but as others have said, he may just be content at this point to stick it to the TT AD by staying "unemployed".
All I gotta say is it sucks to be a Gopher football fan right now. And I'm really glad JP didn't look at Brewster's direction a few years back (even though we ended up hiring our own dud).
What big name coaches want to go there ? Unless they hire a really BIG (and I mean BIG) name, they will have to face the same situation: getting the leftovers from tOSU, Wisky, Iowa and Penn state. Don't forget that Nebby is coming to town too next season.
The only chance Minny can get big-name coach coming is let's say suddenly Urban Meyer said "I hate sunshine in Florida, I want to enjoy cold weather and snow".

Just throwing this out there, Twin Cities sports journalists sometimes make the Register look like the gold standard of sports journalism.
