What a shock, ISU loses to Iowa again in wrestling. That's only like 30 of the last 31 meets and 7 straight. Congrats constant underachievers.

They announced they're going to have a trophy for this dual. That thing won't get much mileage.

first, why don't you see it changing under jackson, and second, being completely realistic, who would you see it changing under?

Agreed!!! Jackson is only in his second year here. Love how everyone wants to get down on him when we didn't win there with hardly any coach.

I thought we showed a lot of good things, but of course the curse of letting the last 10 seconds get us. Big learning experience for a lot of these guys. Carr great job, sorenson good win, ward nicely done... woulda like to seen reader possible push it a little more maybe get a major outta it, toss up at heavyweight which will only make our two get better in the room. Lots of time before nationals guys, did like seeing KJ get on ward after his match showed what KJ expects out of these guys. I would like to see in some of the matches the shots taken from us compared to iowa.. did not seem like iowa pushed as much as i'm use to seeing from them

Anyone else tired of getting worked by Iowa in wrestling? I don't pay much attention to wrestling in general, but I always watch this dual, and getting smeared each year is getting annoying.

This is a total rebuilding year for Iowa...if we can't beat them now we'll never beat them, no matter who our coach is

And this isn't a rebuilding year for ISU? We both had senior dominated teams last year. The big difference is that we lost a couple of guys in the offseason. If Long kept his nose clean and guys like Thompson stuck around, this may have been a different meet.

the original ref must have gotten weathered out so they grabbed the first guy they saw on the street. that was a joke I did more wrestling getting a beer out of the frig then Ballweg and Raising did during seven minutes. If I'm an Iowa fan the only wrestler I'm happy with was ST. John. They preach the Iowa style that must mean stand around and react. I was happy with what we did

Should have posted this here to start with...

Just got home from the meet, so overall here's my thoughts.

The good: Our fundamentals were sound, nobody got out-techniqued. Also, our guys that were outgunned bigtime put up a hell of a fight. I have nothing but respect for Hunter, James, and Shafer. Those guys fought with heart. Ward pulled out a win after the ref did everything he could to give Lofthouse the match, and other than Drouin we won every match we were supposed to. This ISU team is going to score a lot of points in March.

The bad: We didn't get outwrestled, but we got outhustled. The Iowa guys had much more intensity. This was especially clear when it came to getting escapes from the bottom. Almost none of our wrestlers exploded out and most of them just hung out down there without making a real attempt to get out.

The ugly: Weatherman got broken. He just gave up in the third period and surrendered a major. Weatherman is a huge disappointment this season. I can forgive losing, but giving up is not acceptable. Also, our lineup has some big holes. Where we're bad we're really bad.

Overall I am disappointed with the loss, but not worried about the team other than the holes we already knew about. All of the guys we expect to score points for us in March wrestled good, intense matches with an obvious gameplan put together to win. This makes me feel good about the future with Jackson. He put our wrestlers in the position they needed to win tonight. I think he'll have us peaking at the right time and ready to outperform at NCAAs.

The officiating at 197, Heavy, and 141 was atrocious. Ward overcame it to win in overtime, but at Heavy I still don't know how the ref thought that the Hawk got an escape and then takedown. That match should have gone into overtime at 0-0. At 141 we did everything but pin the guy and never got a score, but right at the end of regulation the Hawk got some questionable control (way less than we'd gotten and not scored with just moments before) and was awarded a takedown. Even if we only win one of those OT matches it still is a much closer score. Win them both and we win the meet.
