Seriously, I do agree with you about his parents. That would be a let down of epic proportion...

They took him in when he was like 10yrs old. His biological mom, as he put it, "kind of got overwhelmed with the process of life and I kind of became a distraction."

I mean, his story was like the story from Blind Side, you know? He grew up on the streets, stayed where he could, etc. He gets taken in by his good friend's family, gets a second chance, gets to play DI football...becomes that schools all time receiver...

But instead of heading to the pros, his life is headed in the opposite direction.

The kid obviously has many problems, he may have thrown away his future. It's just sad. People that laugh at, or find pleasure in something like this are insensitive at the very least. The fact it happened in Iowa City and not Ames shouldn't be a reason for acting like a *******.

I was ready to give him the benefit of the doubt when they said "prescription drugs" since I wouldn't be suprised if a whole lot of college football players are hooked on painkillers. If that was the case he'd need some help and while I would have a bit of schadenfreude since he's a Hawk, I'd still be hoping for the best for him.

And I could care less if he was smoking pot, because while I don't do it myself, I could care less if someone else does.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug though. Plus why the hell would he admit to to officers that he had taken cocaine? He lost my sympathy when cocaine came into the picture.

Aside from all the pity for DJK and him throwing his opportunity away...he's a big boy, he knew he was engaged in illegal activity. Simple fact, like many pampered athletes, he thought he'd get away with it because he's likely never had to face consequences for anything.

Another thought....that Ferentz sure knows how to run a classy program over there in IC!!!!

Pot is one thing. Painkillers is another. But cocaine?! Really?!

I feel a tiny bit of sympathy for the guy, but not much.

All of those "Run DJK" t-shirts at Scheels were just marked down to $2.99 and thrown on the clearance rack.

If we are talking about someone where something happens our of their control then I agree. But if you are months away from getting drafted and making some serious coin and purposely put yourself in this situation, you deserve all the **** that gets thrown at you. And yes, I would say the same thing if it happened in Ames as well as Iowa City.
I agree with you, he is certainly self destructive. By all accounts he was given many chances to do the right thing and make good choices. He chose not to do the right thing, he is to blame for his own problems. I simply have issues with people that take pleasure in sad situations like this based on their dislike for the school he attends. I also have a sneaking feeling that some of the people blasting this kid may have at one time or another indulged in an illegal substance themselves.

If someone gets pushed off a cliff I feel sorry for them.
If someone chooses to jump off a cliff I don't feel sorry for them.

He chose to jump and enjoyed it until he got caught.

The guy was smoking weed, popping pills, and snorting crack cocaine. He even admitted to it. He was also on a full ride scholarship playing D-1 football. He was in the public's eye and he knew it. He got caught.
If he can do that, then people have the right to laugh at him and make fun of the situation. It's not like he was forced down and pills were shoved down his throat, a blunt was forced in his mouth, and somebody blew some cocaine powder in his face.
