I would agree. I still have a man-crush on that guy. He had a cup of coffee with the Bulls so it's pretty obvious that he was a talent. He had hamstring issues that may have cost him a better career.

Yeah, I really wish he could have stuck with the Bulls a little while. He and Hoiberg actually were teammates on that team weren't they?

And for the sweet sixteen: Kenny Pratt :jimlad:

That was one of those "no, no, no...yes!" type of shots.

Hey, I think he was great and would take him over JS and SC right now, but he was a great scorer and clutch as you say, not a pure shooter.

I disagree. Willoughby was a pure shooter. It was just that he was the ONLY outside threat on his team. He usually had to run his defenders off of about three screens to get open shots. His PG was Holloway and he had Pratt and Bankhead at the 3 and 4 spots. If he had ANYONE that could draw defenders and dish to him for a spot up three, I think he would have been deadly accurate.

Can somebody help me out and give me some kind of idea as to what this guy is up to now??? There never will be a better shooter at Iowa State like this guy.

Disagree. Jake looked like god's gift to the three pointer his freshman season, but when the other 4 starters are Tinsley, Horton, Rancic and Shirley, it's pretty easy to end up with a lot of open shots. The rest of his years, while unfortunately saddled with playing point two of them, Jake was merely mortal, showing a decided lack of ability to create his own shot. If he wasn't open, pure and simple, Jake wasn't going to score.

Before Jake there were a whole slew of shooters that you could put ahead of him, but I'll just name two. Fred Hoiberg and Dedrick Willoughby. Both shot similar percentages to Jake, but both could create for themselves.

I would agree that since him we've not seen anyone that's as good a shot as Jake was, but Scotty, when healthy, has been more than a match, again because of his ability to create his own shot.

And I wouldn't go to sleep on Allen yet. That kid could make us all have fond memories of #22.

I'd almost take Willoughby over all of them. Not only did he have a silky smooth jumper but he had the mentality and ability to put the DAGGER into your heart. He was absolutely the master of killing the other team's momentum. Do you guys remember how many times the other team would get a three or something to cut into a lead and DW would sprint down the court and swish one to take it right back. That man had GIANT BALLS.
One of my all time favorites. It was awesome when Hilton was rocking and he would be back on defense slapping the floor while waiting for the opposing team to bring the ball up the court. It just drove the crowd even wilder.

Plus didn't he play on a bum hamstring pretty much all his last year? Easily my favorite cyclone of all time!
Yes he did. I remember my senior year the Clones went into Carver and Dedric's ham was so bad he could barely walk and Kenny Pratt was sitting in the crowd ineligible. The Clones blew the Hawks away, leading by double digits most of the game. The Hawks threw up some late threes to make it look closer than it was, but DW was an absolute WARRIOR that night.

OK, this could be a whole new thread but that reminded me of another great WARRIOR performance, when Grayer threw down 40, including a reverse dunk IN TRAFFIC on the road at Michigan State with basically his knee immobilized. STUD.

Why does a Jake Sullivan thread always pop up?

Jake was a guy that worked very hard, he and Shane Powers came in together didn't they? The odd recollection of Jake i have is his strangely horrible 3 pt shooting on the road. It was very odd. He was a amazing 3pt shooter overall.

Jake was lights out at Hilton and on the road his freshman year. Something happened and after his freshman year, he couldn't hit the deep ball on the road to save his life. I always wondered what happened.

That "something" was the loss of Mel Mel to the NBA.

If it simply came down to a game of horse, I would probably take Jake against just about anybody.

Yeah, thinking about it, I think you may be on to something here. I remember him being able to shoot, but when I looked back at his percentages a while back, I was surprised how low they were.

Most impressed by the 38.2 minutes per game his junior year. Unreal.

Really liked Willoughby. He did get some Press Pass basketball cards which I've gotten a few of. If he was a little taller, I think he would have stuck in the NBA.

Jake always impressed me because of his hard work. Let's face it: He really wasn't born with a whole lot of basketball talent. He's a purely self-made man.

I would compare him to that old dude in "The World's Fastest Indian" who built an old POS Indian motorcycle into a world-record speedster using scrap metal and baling twine. There's no way in hell he should be out there with the Big Boys playing in the Big 12, but when his shot was "on" and the balls were bouncing right, then you said to yourself "Oh yeah, THAT'S why he's out there".
