If I had to pick a guy to turn into a DT in the current class, I would probably go with either Oni Omoile or Jamison Lalk. They both have good frames and appear eager to simply play football at eh next level. The other would be David Irving, who has a tremendous frame, but he is years away from carrying the weight.
Lalk is clearly an offensive tackle prospect. I am reasonably sure that Omoile is considered a big step towards CPR's dream of an OkieState style offensive line. In either case, it's not as if the OL doesn't have room for improvement aplenty. And Irving is simply everything Wally could ask in a defensive end. Including both the ability to rush the passer and drop into coverage. The only possible alternate position I see him playing would be tight end.

We need a coach who can attract talent for DT. Someone who can lead the players on to NFL careers. Maybe Shane can coach special teams - and CPR can coach the DTs. This could be a win-win because our special teams wern't very good outside of Kirby.

Are you freaking kidding me?

So, because our coaches are having difficulty recruiting probably the hardest position for any team to recruit, we are doubting their coaching abilities?

Look at where ISU is right now. We are toward the bottom of BCS schools and are also below the higher non-BCS schools. This will be only the second full recruiting class for this staff. And you expect us to start pulling in 3 star DTs every year?

The staff is aware of the need for more DTs and they are trying to get anyone they think they can develop into a Big12 caliber player. There just aren't that many available and the ones they have found so far have decided to go to other schools. Case in point, Keithen English. CPR and staff were on him when he only had an offer from Memphis. Then the kid blows up and may end up going to Oky State or Arkansas. That shows me the staff knows what they are doing and what to look for. Hopefully in the next couple of years, when the program is more established, they can get guys like English to commit early before they blow up and get a bunch of new offers.

Please do not question our coaches abilities. Especially Shane who lately is proving to be one of our BEST recruiters. Besides, recruiting is generally done by region so blaming the position coach is even more out of line.

I saw that he passed over the weekend. Were there any details around his passing?
