If you listened to the postgame locker room show, you learned everything you need to know from Coach Hoiberg about the kind of effort our team gave tonite. Not good at all. Its OK to criticize an effort from an individual game but still be positive about the direction of the program.

Just sucks to be the worst team in the big 12

I was hoping to stay out of cellar-dweller status.

I looked at the Big 12 schedule this week, and if ISU could go 2-0, and most of the rest of the games went close to expected, ISU would still be only one game above a 3-way tie for last — but also would be tied with 3 other teams at a half-game out of fourth.

Progress is measured in small steps. I won't bash this team, but the record simply doesn't reflect its transitional positives. Those little details add up.

I'm more disappointed in our dopey fans calling players out after losses than how the team is playing.

The effort on the defensive end, as a team, was atrocious yesterday. Very, very frustrating game to watch and IMO I am pretty disappointed in the team after the last few games. Doesn't mean I'm not excited about the future. I'm just disappointed because for all the limitations this team has, there is no way it should be 1-5 and dead last in the Big 12.

+1.

We shouldn't be dead last, but here we are.

We still have a chance to turn it around for this year, but that chance is getting more and more difficult to make happen. The guys have to understand that and actually play some defense.

Even a mild defensive effort wins last night. Even a mild, less pathetic one.

We are merely reaping what MacDumass sowed. We don't have the horses yet.
Ham and Dendy could have helped but they decided to head for the hinterlands. Right now we are being outpowered by the Big 12. If JVB cannot make threes, we need Railey on the inside.

Shooting better than 19% from behind the arc would help too. But yeah, it's tough to win when you can't score and aren't even getting in the other team's way.

How do you let one of the worst teams in major conference b-ball come into your gym and knock down 55% of their shots, 58% from 3-point land? We gave up 55 points in the second half! Horrible.

Obviously, the three-point shooting was bad. At the same time, we did grind out 83 points, so we at least found some ways to score (and showed Fred's impact at the FT line). At the same time, we shouldn't need to make 35 FTs to win, and that's what it would have taken last night. Shouldn't have to foul out their entire starting lineup to win, that sort of thing.

The offense was rough, but still produced a ton of points. I put most (emphasize most) of last night's problem on extremely poor defense. It's like we've never seen motion and passing before.

We've seen that this team can play defense against major conference schools, so it wasn't that we can't do it. We just didn't, and that's really upsetting.

Come on Iowa State fans. We are better than this. Tonights game was tough (unlike our defense) but this was to be expected. We are playing 7 guys, 2 of which are freshmen, and 1 of which is a walk on. We are going to have some growing pains.

But the direction of the program has not looked this promising in a long time. Let's refrain from calling out TRUE freshmen who are forced into roles that are not their strengths. Freshmen who in the future will be very good when they are put in the spots that show their skills and make them successful. Let's refrain from calling out the players who are busting their tails out there. Because they are. These guys are playing 30 to 35 minutes a game, every game, and they are going up against guys who are bigger and more mature than they are.

Stay positive, don't jump off the ledge on this loss. This season is already 1,000X better than any of us thought it would be going in. Just sit back and appreciate the job that these kids and this staff is doing. They are playing HARD and busting their butts.
Agree with not calling out players but that performance was not expected. We are a better team than that. We played HORRIBLE, HORIBBLE defense and got outrebounded by a horrible rebounding team that went small. It was a HORRIBLE performance and that is a game we should not lose at home.If anyone expected to lose to TT at home then they really undersell this program.

BTW- This season is exactly what I thought it would be with the exception of this game. We beat up on **** poor competition get beat by great competition. I just thought we could get a win against the mediocre guys, especially at home.

We went deeper into our bench last night than TT did. Keep in mind TT had to travel from West Texas as well. Tired legs and thin bench is not the reason for the loss. 4 guys helping on one guy driving the lane, leaving the ground on every pump fake, and **** poor positioning on rebounding were the reasons we lost.

We were not outpowered last night. TT went small and rarely went to their bench. Our half court offense is not good and we couldn't take advantage of obvious physical mismatches in which we were the bigger guy for a change. then we were outrebounded by smaller more aggressive guys.

Well Boys this team has probably already won way more games this year than it had a right to win, when you look at the talent on the floor.

Freddie is doing a great job with a team with little talent and if you think this is bad you should have been around for the 4 win season of Glen Anderson or the 7 win season of Ken Trickey.

This season isnt all that bad and Im ready to look forward to a brighter future of WINNING IOWA STATE BASKETBALL...

All you naysayers need to get behind Freddie Ball....

Agreed. Everyone needs to just calm down. This was not expected to be "the year", we knew we'd struggle in the Big 12 and yet we are sitting at 14-7. Kick your feet up, crack open a cold one, enjoy what you've got, which is a team that has overachieved thus far. Relax.

I agree. We did play Horrible, soft, defense with holes throughout it. We played with little emotion until the end of the game. All I am saying is that teams all across the country have games where they don't play hard. This was the 1st time this year where I have noticed it happening with Iowa State. If you want to call out the team, fine, but call out the TEAM not an individual player. That is just my opinion on the matter

We didn't play hard at Mizzou either but I expect that one. What makes me upset is this is a game we have to win. Fred has placed a big emphasis on winning at home and they failed miserably last night.

BTW-we have had 3 bad defensive efforts in a row.

Last night was not a lack of talent issue and people continually underssell the talent that we have. Last night was an effort and dare I say coaching issue.

We did to play hard at Mizzou. It was 20-16 and we missed 3 straight free throws. The players were running hard and moving around. Problem in that game was that we turned it over a ton. Otherwise our effort was there early on, which was not the case last night
