Fort Lauder-Dodge! Thankfully I became de-sensitized to Dodge bashing shortly after arriving at ISU when a former kindergarden classmate aided and abetted a stabbing and ended wet VEISHEA. The town rep took a hit after that one.

Ottuwma, also known as Oscumwa.

Moved to Ottumwa at age of 14 from Tokyo. Don't ask me how I ended up in Ottumwa from other side of the world. I wanted to cry when I landed in DSM for the first time, then I realized it wasn't Ottumwa quite yet. I really wanted to cry when I actually got to Ottumwa. Good ol Ottumwa.

Dike - graduated in the last class before it turned into Dike-New Hartford. At ISU I learned to just say I grew up near Cedar Falls because the whole girl-from-Dike joke got ooollld. To add a little salt to the wound I actually grew up on a farm between Dike and Stout, in Beaver township. Look it up on a map - I am not making this up.

I am the least athletic female to every walk out of that school back in when they owned volleyball championships every year.

My husband is from Breda in Western Iowa. When we got married I considered the 'Dike Woman Marries Breda Man' headline above our wedding announcement, but decided the humor might be lost on most people.

I haven't gone through the whole thread yet so maybe this has already been brought up, but in northern Iowa where I am from there is a couple other towns in the area called Manly and Fertile. It's been quite a few years ago but I remember a heading in the local paper that word for word was ....."Manly man marries Fertile woman"........:twitcy:

About me?

born in Casper Wyoming
then to Phillipsburg Kansas
then to Farmington New Mexico
then to Britt Iowa from the 6th grade forward.

EDIT: Side note, I've gotten black out drunk in every region of the State (according to that map) except for South Central Iowa.

Better drive down to Warren County and tie on a 12 pack.

I get the feeling the 12-pack would just be an appetizer for a later entre of Templeton Rye.

Puh-leeze! That would be like saying Mike Tyson's rep would take a hit if he was caught for public consumption. The reputation was in place long before that.
Note: Scarlett O'Hara's does give Ft. Fun at least one redeeming feature.

The Winterset Metroplex
Corydon, IA. Wayne HS class of '08. Got quite a few good friend from good ol' P'ville.

Corydon? I used to do a lot of surveying work down in Wayne County back in the 90's. We used to stay at the Nodyroc Motel (Corydon spelled backwards. CLEVER!) and walk over to that great restaurant on the East side of the Courthouse square for dinner. Wasn't it the Dutch Mill or something like that?

I am surprised by the representation that Winterset's got on CF. Rah Huskies! Go! Fight! Win!

I can't remember the name of that restaurant. It's changed a couple times since then. But it was definitely a good place to eat. Now it's kind of dropped off, though. Ludlow's Steakhouse is where you'll find some of the best steak anywhere (it's in the building where Keller's Flower Shop used to be, and named after the old Bassett hound that was practically the shop's mascot), though a little pricey. If you want more affordable steak, the Lodge on the north side is the place to go. Still very good food, and it's been doing quite well.

Corydon's (and Wayne County, for that matter) in the middle of nowhere, but it's a nice little town as far as I'm concerned. Got a lot of good memories there. Doesn't hurt matters that my two favorite Hawks of all time are from Wayne County: Chris Street and Tork Hook. Both are family friends, I'm named for Tork and my sister is named for Chris. (Yeah, THAT didn't have any kind of influence on where I'm going to college )
