It shouldn't be a RULE that a certain color must be worn. It should be a request. Ya know, like when they request Wear Gold or Cardinal games for the entire fanbase?

WooHoo!! That's the Yoda I remember. Stupid organization that didn't force me to join them, and now wants me to follow the rules that they made me aware of before I joined. Screw them. Me and Yoda will do what we want! Glad to have you back, buddy. Now we can take on these gate agents.

As a student I have no problem with the same color shirt thing. It really does make the student section look a lot better as long as the section is full, which is a problem with the team winning, not CA.

However, I do think the free throw stuff is lame, the dumb props (fluffy hats, suspenders, ect) need to go. The cooler props (jerseys, foam sticks, cone megaphone things) can stay. The leaders need to stop being people trying to add to their resume and start being people who have one task: get Hilton as loud and fun as possible.

Those are my improvements. I think if you were to go half and half CA vs regular student section that would be fine too.

Cyclone alley = conformance. Sit hear. Wear this. Cheer when we say. I didn't like it when I was a student (actually stopped getting tickets for bball because of CA), and I still think it is dumb. A student with a student ticket can't sit in the lower student section? Are all the seats full? Nope - not a member of CA. Sit up top. LOL. no thanks.

I would like to see a change in the cheers. "ooo" is a very good cheer when we need to be loud and it is very successful. That said, I would like to see some defense, isu, or cyclone chants.

The part of the survey that I liked is when they asked if you'd rather have gold or cardinal shirts. I like the shirt rule I just hope it gets changed to gold becaue I just think that looks really really sharp. It "pops" out more than the cardinal which I think just blends in.

The thing they really need to do if they want a good sized student section at every game is making tickets cheaper or even free. I know a lot of schools don't charge and just take the first so many students until they are full. Although I don't think this will happen.

:biglaugh: never going to happen.

Actually, as far as I know, all the schools that have "free" student sections where students are adminited to capacity (schools like TT for instance) require ALL students to pay for the tickets through a fee on their university bill. And actually, ISU does this too, part of the reason we have discounted student tickets is because the Gov't of the Student Body gives (or "pays" however you want to look at it) the athletics department a huge chunk of change out of the fees they collect on all student's UBill.

Is that maybe why I said this will never happen?

Did it ever occur to you that maybe some students want the benefit of paying the same student price for student section seats but don't want to participate in the color scheme.

Back when I was cool, I attended ISU basketball games as a student. There was a lottery for tickets. You got moved around. You intertwined with the general fanbase. We were rowdy. We didn't just yell "ohhhhh" and wear the same shirt.

They will never, ever let this happen. Back when CA was first getting started in the early 2000s, they did split it up, CA on one end and general students on the other. The general student section was always better attended and was always more into the games. They were the better student section in every way. This was the same student section at the same games, so there are no excuses about weather, or quality/style of play on the floor, or the fact that the team had been bad for a few years. It was the perfect experiment, all things equal except CA membership. And CA flat out lost.

Now that the SAA has their hands in this thing as well there are financial drivers at play. They don't want to lose this cash cow. They can't give a general student section a chance, because it will kill their baby. I would love to see CA fixed/disbanded as much as the next person, but I just have no idea what it would take to get that done.

Is it a requirement to join Cyclone Alley in order to get student tickets? When I was there, Cyclone Alley was in its infancy and you had the option to get the tix and the Cyclone Alley shirt, which allowed you to sit at one end, or just the tix which allowed you to sit at the other end.

Spot on. I was a student when there wasn't a Cyclone Alley, when it was half and half, and when it was full on CA. Every step change... the atmosphere changed for the worse with it.

There was something about a first come, first serve student section. It created an atmosphere from the get go and you were pumped to have scored a seat as close as you could get. That energy carried over all the way through the game. T

To sit in the lower student seats it is. If not in CA then you have to sit in the balcony seats.

I agree with both Aeroclone and jtd. My final year at ISU CA was half-and-half. Now, I'm a little biased because I was in the non-CA section, but it always seemed rowdier, louder, and filled quicker. Not to mention more interesting to look at. If I would have known how entrenched CA would become I would have spoken out. Today, I kick myself for not speaking out at that time (because I was on Senior Class Council, a member of SALC, etc.).

If you talk to Jeff Johnson, he loves CA! Problem is, he didn't see Hilton in the 90s when there was no CA and it was a crazy environment. Now, I think it is entrenched and it will be very difficult to scrap it. The only thing that could stop CA is student-led campaign to disband it (or at least half of it).

My hunch is Hilton would come back stronger if CA was at least partially scrapped.

cyclone alley is just from the floor to the concrete ring, so you can still sit in the lower bowl section without being in CA

Now that's just lame! Sounds like they just wanted to increase membership. When it first started, we got moved from the sides of the court to the ends and Cyclone Alley differentiated itself from the other students by simply wearing different shirts. Might have been some sort of promo item (I still have a giant foam finger around here someplace...) or two given out.

College students are creative people. Ditch the matching shirts and propls. Let them come up with their own outfit. The matching shirts have been played out. For once, I'd like to see ISU start a trend instead of following.

They could have some type of competition where some people scan the scans all game and then the most rowdy fans are rewarded first dibs on better seats.

I may be wrong but on several occasions I have been informed by both ushers and even in an email to the ticket office as to where the student section for non-CA members was that only the balcony is CA. Again I may have been misinformed or things may have changed since I asked before the season began.

Cyclone Alley won't be any different next year and no one will complain because we will be winning.

My opinion is that winning cures everything. Students wouldn't be complaining or wanting to change much if ISU were winning a ton of games. But besides that, I think that they should keep Cyclone Alley to the arena (lower) parts and the parquet behind them should go to donors. They just don't fill those seats for a majority of the games and it looks terrible. Make those arena seats behind the basket "Cyclone Alley" where you have to wear the certain shirt...first come first served until it is full. The rest of the students go to center court upper level general admission. Those are still great seats and the people sitting there now move down to the parquet seats behind the students.

That way, the seats are always full and the students that don't want to be part of Cyclone Alley still get great seats to watch the game.
