Beastie Boys have always sucked and I hear nothing to change that view.
I don't know about anyone else, but as an artist, they can only be judged on what they actually write. Does s/he actually write her own songs?
Decoration Day is, IMO, the best album of the last decade. But based on my own discovery of DBT, I'd argue it isn't the best place to direct the new listener.
Hmmm...Decoration Day was my first DBT album and I would say it was the perfect place to start...'outfit'...'my sweet annette'...those are very listenable tunes to someone not used to a band like DBT's.
I can live with that response.
I was actually less surprised by the lack of love for PJ (they're nothing like the artists you champion here) as the GaGa love.
IMO, Gaga is just a Madonna rip off that uses shock value as a gimmick to mask her lack of talent (which one can argue is most of what Madonna did). That's just me.
The main reason I'm not jazzed about Pearl Jam is that I've had them force fed to me for YEARS. It's not that I font like them it's just that I'm bored by it. Not discounting them at all...but when you get fed butterscoth disks for ten years, even if they are sweeter and more buttery than a freshman coed in thigh highs, you're still going to get tired of butterscotch disks after eating them for that long.
Gaga? I'll explain it like this: my wife and I were on our honeymoon and we caught a festival. It was a killer lineup, LCD Soundsystem, Deadmau5, Miike Snow, !!!, K&D, and Die Antwoord. I won't bore you with the details regarding how dope the shows were but Die Antwoord blew me away. It was infectious as all get out but their lyrics were some of the most vile things I have ever heard...I was digging the sticks out of their set and so was my wife. She isn't a prude but misogyny kind of rubs her the wrong way..and they were pouring liquid verbal misogyny out of their mouths for a solid 45 minutes. I looked over at her dancing her face off during their last song while the main MC was delivering some of the best and at the same time grossest lyrics ive ever seen live and I gave her a WTF glance...she simply said, "what, I love the beats".
Lupe is only about five bucks on Amazon, worth the download.

You made me look some of their stuff up. Holy ****.
I can't figure out if they're playing characters or what. But something about that Ninja guy or whatever is strangely awesome.Yeah, lol...you know how they say marijuana is a gateway drug and that after you use it for a while you need to chase harder drugs to get a bigger rush? Ten years of being around palatable music has driven me to some fairly strange corners of the musical world so that I can still get off.
I streamed both the new MMJ and Death Cab albums. Not bad, not great. I'll probably pick them up and give them more time. The Death Cab album is the most electronic thing Ben Gibbard has done since the Postal Service.
I wish MMJ made an album that somewhat sounds like their live stuff.
