I heard 13th a few weeks ago but obviously not a big difference between 13th and 17th :)

Bottom line, the scoreboard itself is huge. The structure is MASSIVE. If you thought the whole structure was going to be scoreboard, you didn't pay close enough attention when the plans were announced.

The new video screen will further expose the south endzone screen one for what it is - a 27-inch Sanyo that Van de Velde got on sale at Costco.

Should be 13th by area. Looks like somebody tweaked wikipedia because it was on there a couple of weeks ago. Probably some hok troll

No, they just moved it down to a "Future" section.

It will be the 17th largest this fall by area in the country, and 4th largest in the conference (Texas #1, Oklahoma #6, TAMU #11).

Does anybody know if the new sound system will be located entirely in the scoreboard, or are they wiring "satellite" speakers in the rest of the stadium too as they have currently. I realize all of the bass, etc would come from the scoreboard.

I'm assuming that the only thing they are going to do with the pillars is that?

Bigger than tOSU and Oregon. So we got that going for us.

Why is it angled like that? Any Tom, ****, or Harry could still access it and climb it from the other side. I would assume they are going to build that up higher and access would be through a locked door or something?

That would be smart. I mean, there's a ladder built in to it.

Just wait until we beat Iowa/Texas/somebody big and get fans all over the field. Some drunk student will be getting on that ladder.

Probably all from the scoreboard, otherwise you start getting an echo effect when sitting farther away from the main source of sound. It would sound like a garbled mess.

Maybe they will flip the mold over and do the same thing to the other side?

I was wondering why they have it angled as well.

RETAINING WALL!!!!

Yes they are going to somehow cover those pillars, but that is not it, that is the retaining wall for the hillside.

The board looks good! Probably lead to several more wins just due to opponents being intimidated by its size.

Nonsense. Unless the new sound designers are worse than the old ones. Even I could design a system with delay towers that doesn't echo and sound like a garbled mess.

But I bet they're all or 90% in the scoreboard.

I wonder if they remembered to put in a big enought electrical outlet. That thing is going to suck a lot of juice. :jimlad:

I hope they used a good paint on the structure, otherwise that thing will rust to pieces before the end of the season. :jimlad:

Does anyone know if it will hold up to the winds? :jimlad:

I hope ISU has set aside some money for lawsuits when students jump off the top of the towers. Maybe it would be cheaper to build a fence? It's asking too much for 18 - 22 year old people to not be ******** drunks and try to climb the tower. :jimlad:

I really hoped it would be bigger, it looks kinda small in the pictures. :jimlad:

They better not use that thing for advertisements. :jimlad:

Okay, I think I got everything covered. Can we start enjoying the fact that we're getting a new state-of-the-art scoreboard?

In other scoreboard news, it looks like we have the answer to the mystery railroad ties around the base of the support. They poured some cement footings in there over the last couple days:

readImage.asp

Looks big to me. The screen itself is close to as big as the front of the Jacobson building. It just looks small in comparison to the rest of the structure. If that screen were set atop the Jake, with no supports, it would look massive.
We will all be happy come kickoff.
