The only team we need to worry about right now is Oklahoma. If they were to leave the Big 12, Oklahoma St. would follow and then we would be in some deep ****. Beebee, let's stop being pathetic and save the conference again!

Crappy for us, but good for A&M. They hate Texas, Texas has been trying to **** all over everyone in the conference, and A&M upgrades in a big way. Their fans have to be pretty excited.

No expansion. Right now do what it takes to keep Oklahoma.

Bingo. Expansion should take a back seat to making sure that Oklahoma feels cozy. If Oklahoma leaves, the Big 12 is dead.

At least until Alabama walks into College Station and rolls all over 'em.

Bright side of this story: TAMU's share of withheld revenue may pay for Jack Trice Stadium south endzone expansion! Maybe...

It always bothers me that people reference only baylor about politics and don't include Tech (who used just as much- or more- political pressure to get into the Big 12). But I digress...

In my opinion, the BU alums had very little influence over the process last summer and have little influence today. Power has shifted in the state and there are fewer BU legislators these days in the positions necessary to direct anything. Baylor didn't have the power to block the P16 deal last summer and neither BU or Tech will be in a position to try to strong arm a new member into the conference without the other members approval.

For what it's worth, I think BYU makes a lot of sense. It's a Win-Win for them and while i do realize that we could be fine at 9 (as long as OU and TX are), I think adding a second market could potentially do good things.

I have no information to back this up, but the longer we stay at 9, the more I feel like we'll see a TX/OU/Tech/OSU move to the PAC, leaving KU/KSU/ISU/BU/MU trying to jump into a Big East type league that will also be getting poached.

For another year? ISU should be looking at their exit strategy too before it is too late. If the Big East is interested, ISU would be a fool to turn it down at this point. Basically ISU is hoping to get a big payday for a couple of years while risking mediocre paydays for years to come. I would take the for sure thing.

Even if the conference goes down we would be foolish to move before the Big East and ACC get cherry picked. Stay to the last day and cash the big checks.

I don't think we can. We don't have the budget to be able to withstand a huge penalty fee (30% of year 1 revenue and 70% of year 2 or something like that?). Have to have money to pay for all of the capital improvements.

That's the thing about the big east. The ACC will lose a school to the SEC within the next 12 months. And the ACC will likely raid the Big East as a replacement. And within the next 36 months, the Notre Dame contract is up and, assuming 14 team leagues become the norm, the Big East will likely lose another to the B10. That would leave them with 7, assuming the ACC didn't expand past 12.

The Big East is just as unstable as the B12 right now, really. If they were smart, they'd dislodge themselves from the bball schools and go ahead and expand to 14 on their own right by taking B12/ACC teams. That way, even if they get poached, the AQ situation is never in doubt.

The Big East isn't going to invite ISU unless it is a package deal with KU, Mizzou, etc. We won't have the ability to be proactive. We will be a tag along or left out in the cold.

Or run the risk of waiting too late and not being picked by anyone. ISU is in between a rock and hard place right now. Certainly feel for you guys as it seems like ISU is caught in the crossfire. Will be interesting how this plays out.

Nobody is going to be running in to save ISU's *** anyways.

Honestly, this is starting to sound better to me than this crap every year. If ISU/MU/KU/KSU/BU could leverage themselves as a package deal to the Big East I say go for it. It gives TCU a rival in Texas and other "regional" schools to have in a division (TCU/BU/ISU/MU/KU/KSU/Louisville/Cincy). Builds some rivalries and makes the conference solid and stable. It would probably cause the non football schools to jettison off and form their own conference or it would make for one HELL of a conference tourney. I think there were some pretty crazy (read: interesting) ides for a conference bball tourney last year. Regardless, if this would provide more stability, I'm all for it.
