What a soap opera. The PAC has to say they are happy with 12 right now because officially A&M hasn't been accepted to the SEC. Once they are I think the OK schools are gone. Way too much smoke there. If the SEC is willing to go past the 12 number it looks like they might want to get to 16 and try to select their schools first. This whole thing is crazy, would love to be a fly on the wall of some of these conference offices.

As a Jayhawk I would love the Big East and have a bunch of Big 12 teams go with us to form a West division. I would like that even more than the Big 12 because I think it would lead to some crazy recruiting classes in BBall and lets face it we are BBall school and will never be one of those football schools with a 90,000 seat stadium. But if 4 - 16 team superconferences is the future then do the big boys start looking to select their schools before their rival conferences do? And if that happens isn't the Big East the next conference to disappear? It looks like the ACC is a very tight and proud conference so the good schools of that conference probably aren't budging. That means them and the Big and SEC will end up raiding the Big East and by the time their done there will be only a couple of teams left that play football.

Just way too many balls in the air right now. But if you're not OU or Texas and the PAC, SEC, BIG or ACC invites you don't you pretty much have to accept it because of the fear of being left out of the superconferences?

And then there are the backdoor lawsuit threats that is really holding things together......that said, here is what the futrure may or may not bring....

TWO WEEKS from today, all ten members may be back together, contented (Boomer and Bevo still talking), and sharing in the LHN loot if ESPN/UT so deems.

It seems like there is more money to be made by staying together than moving to SEC (no new SEC contract needed till 2024), the Big Ten is contented cows with their BTN/big contract and do not want to be blamed for the breakup with their contract, PAC 16 Larry is being slowed down by the real university presidents, BYU remains independent in order to play high school teams, David Boren's plane is in dry dock, Boomer has not reported lately, ND fball continues its downward trend, CyHawk series gets a newer trophy (piglet eating corn), the ACC goes back into their cocoon breathing a sigh of relief, and CW has time to relax for the Iowa game.

Ready for some football?

Look at Oklahoma State no one wants them, but will take them because they want OU and are willing to take there partner, KU is a big fish to the Big East so they would be willing to take KSU too

Except Oklahoma and Kansas are two schools in two completely different situations. Oklahoma is a school that multiple conferences want and therefore have options. They have the power to take OSU with them wherever they go if they wish because if a conference such as the Pac 12 wants OU badly enough they'll find a spot for OSU, or OU will go to the SEC or stay in the Big 12.

KU doesn't command that kind of power. KU was one of the "Forgotten 4" last year and, if situations don't fall their way, could be sitting on the outside this time as well. Their only chance whatsoever at the Pac 12 is if Texas doesn't want to go or they can't bring TT with them.

Kansas isn't in the position as Oklahoma to say even to the Big East "either take K-State too or we're not coming", especially if the Big East is Kansas' only option for staying relevant. Unless the big East truly wants K-State, if Kansas tries to strong arm the Big East, they'll just say, "good luck".

A person on Tigerboard reported last night that MU told Big Ten "NO" and is going to SEC. And if Texas to the ACC is true, then MD and VA will prob stay put. IF Big Ten wants to go 16, there are very few choices left with AAU status. I believe Pitt, Rutgers and ISU would be the 3 left.

I think ISU will be just fine in all of this. Why do you ask?

All of the "forgotten" North schools, have been very quiet about all of this. Don't you think they'd be making a big fuss if their athletic departments were about to go down the crapper into obscurity? Just take a look at what Baylor posted on their official university site:

Baylor University || Baylor Nation || Don't Mess With Texas Football

Until we have something like that posted on our site, I won't start to get worried. JP will negotiate us a safe landing spot. If anything I think we have more wiggle room than KSU does.

It defies reason that MU would refuse the BigTen and accept the SEC invitation. That really makes no sense to me. Unless the SEC was guaranteeing a re-worked TV contract under expansion, the numbers we have read indicate that the BigTen money would at least match the SEC number if not exceed it. From a competitive standpoint, MU would be much, much better off in just about any BigTen versus SEC arrangement in my opinion.

Cheers

Now, for posterity sake, can someone re-summarize all the conference realignments postulated in this thread?

And, what happens if CU nixes OU at Pac 12/16 altar? Does OU go to ACC then? Or do they carry out the trash at the Beebe office in the big 12?

A B1G coach of a small sport...with a loud AD/staff...might know what is going on. Probably not, but it's certainly possible. Even at the biggest B1G schools, how many people are working full-time in an athletic department? It's not a huge number, especially if someone can't keep their mouth shut.

I just doubt Delany gives much to his ADs as well. Delany with play this thing very close.

I tend to agree with this. At my place of employment, there are quite a few rumors making the rounds in regards to new jobs, new facilities, etc. Everybody has a "source" who knows things, but in the end, nobody knows and we are basically just guessing. That's all it is here. Just guessing and supposition from everybody.
