ISURecruitLists ISU Recruiting Lists

@HoopsWindow reports that Iowa State took a visit to 2013 SF Byron Zeigler from Detroit Community today; Byron may visit ISU in the future

I think your twitter feed would be better if you re-tweeted the info rather than claim it as your own. You're going to tick off all the recruiting guys who do their own work. Otherwise great job.

The conference we're ultimately in will go a long way in helping/hurting Fred.

Looks like you guys were on top of things today; just got the Twitter feed updated with all of the latest. Matt Thomas definitely appears to be one of our top targets in the 2013 class and given his two visits it would appear that we may be the favorites at this point.

I do give credit when there is one guy that reports the information, such as the one you quoted the '@HoopsWindow' is giving him credit that he reported it. There are several recruiting guys who do the same thing and often you'll see all of them post the same information within a few minutes...

I haven't been blocked and haven't gotten any snarky remarks thus far, so I must not have ticked them out yet...

Plus I will often add additional information to the tweets such as that we have offered or shown interest in the recruit, which you can't do if you simply retweet everything.

You can't ignore it. I don't expect any verbals until it's resolved.

I agree that it is going to have an effect, but I think the effect will be less on basketball than in football and other sports. There will likely be some effect on the recruiting here, but there isn't a large impact such as non-BCS like football has. In fact, ESPN just had a few stories regarding conference realignment and it's effect:

Playing the 'what if' game for college basketball if realignment explodes - ESPN

Commissioners of non-football conferences look on nervously during realignment talk - ESPN

Writers' roundtable -- Our experts answer three big questions about realignment - ESPN

Sounds like ESPN thinks we are on the outside looking in.

I personally think it will be devastating if we aren't part of a BCS conference. Pick your sport.

Sure I can - or at least I try to. My job doesn't depend on what conference my alma mater is in. There is nothing i can do about it. Now the coaches - they have to develop a sales pitch for if that happens... If so, I think we've got a good guy doing the talking. It seems Hoiberg has succeeded with recruits by building a great relationship, trust - not obviously by selling our brand. Now, I don't for a minute think this doesn't affect our recruiting - no doubt its and issue - but I'm somewhere in between "we are screwed, we'll never land big talent" and "nothing will change". There are several examples of basketball programs that land good - great talent that are not in a BCS conf.:

Butler
Xavier
Memphis
San Diego St (recently)
Gonzaga

I would imagine that we would take an initial step back, but if Hoiberg shows he can coach, there is no reason we can't still build a program.

All that said, I really don't see us without a place to land.

I meant that you can't ignore the fact that it hurts recruiting. Ignoring the drama is certainly possible but not if you are a recruit.

Sure - the uncertainty is almost worse than anything. Like I said, Fred is selling relationships rather than venue/ status or brand. Realignment just makes it more challenging.

I'm not sure how involved we are in Blaise Mbargorba as of late, I've heard things here or there about other schools but nothing with Iowa State involved. With only one spot remaining I'm wondering if we are focused on either Webster-Chan or Dorsey-Walker among others...
