If this is true will the big east try and throw tampering charges at the conf? I really hope this is true, but there are too many things going on to get excited about anything until they come out and say something publicly.

I fully understand it's about money. And I'm saying the Big XII has a lucrative contract in place already that OU gets a nice chunk of and rights to their own network if they choose to pursue it. They may get slightly more money in a PAC 16 but the revenue would be offset by their increased travel costs. Not to mention increased recruiting costs as they start to recruit from the West coast as well! It's all about money and that's one of the main reasons the Big XII makes the most sense.

In the end, believe it or not, logic will prevail and the Big XII will remain in some form. That is the conclusion I've come to.

Okay, I see your comment but here is what Boren prefers:

The Have Division: OU and UT
The Have Not Divsion: 14 other dwarfs

At end of conference season the Have Division plays the Have Not Divsion for the conference championship. Would that keep OU and UT in the conference?

The Big East is at the end of the current TV deal, so just like the Big 12 last year where the "damages" teams could claim are significantly reduced. Now's the time to poach a Big East team, if you wait till November, it'll be too late and then they'll basically have the same TI claims as the big12 does against our current members.

BYU, Louisville, Southern Miss.
Not sure I like their mascot at Lousiville. If they want in, our Cy has requested a name change. Hope that does not stop them.

Before this realignment goes, we want Steve Alford and Larry Eustachy in the new league. Make it so. Fred wants to coach aginst some previous legends. Steve was noted for his Mt. Hair.

Bobby Burton basically is reporting OU/Texas been running distraction with Pac/ACC talk. Officials with Louisville, Cinci & Pitt have been meeting with the Big XII

Doesn't it seem like this could be a little counter productive? If we add those three schools it would seem like the Big East would collapse as a football conference. In that case, as the remaining schools start looking for a landing place, you set off the superconference feeding frenzy. At that point it would seem inevitable that the B1G, SEC, and PAC would be starting to toss invitations to Big 12 schools and we would be right back where we are now..... Just thinking out loud a little bit here, but it seems to me that the long term stability of the Big 12 requires that this superconference thing doesn't come to fruition, and it seems like this move could still set those processes in motion.

If that happened would Mizzou then be in the south-ish division? You'd have ISU, KU, KSU, Pitt, Louisville, and Cinci in the "northeast-ish" division, and Mizzou, OU, OSU, UT, TT, and Baylor in the "southwest-ish" division?

I think they would keep Mizzou with ISU, KU and the three Big East teams. Louisville is only a 4-hour drive from St. Louis.

K-State could be moved to the southwest division.

Why does it have to end up with 16 team "super" conferences? Why couldn't we just grab up TCU and some ACC teams to create our own super conference? The Big 10 could grab a couple Big East teams and ACC teams and the SEC would finish off the ACC. The Pac 12 would grab BYU Boise and a couple others.

It wouldn't be the end of the world.

I think the big12 can single handedly shut down the discussion of superconferences. After adding 3 new schools if the big12 sets up $100M exit penalties then no one will be leaving and if none of the big12 will switch conferences then there aren't enough quality teams to make up the superconferences.

But maybe this was the way the Big 12 could get their teams without the other conferences interfering. They can get 2nd dibs...

I agree thats probably the easiest solution. But you still have a pretty big seperation of the top teams. You've got UT, OU, OSU and TT in one side, and probably only Mizzou on the other side. Those are probably the top 5 football teams right now. You could argue Pitt vs. TT, but I think I'd side with TT.

Obviously, we are putting the cart before the horse here, but its an interesting discussion nevertheless.

Interesting that you are applying the logic of taking from any other BCS league will cause the super conference dominoes to fall. If the Big 12 did not take from another BCS conference, they would be weakening their position in the future. Sealing there own fate of being poached.

The Big East has always been susceptible. If the Big 12 does nothing, there are doomed. If they go out and do something like this, they give themselves a fighting chance to expand.

I think this latest information re:pitt, Cincy, Louisville makes perfect sense and goes along with my post earlier. We have something people want. A hefty TV deal, tradition, national champions in multiple sports including the big 2 football and basketball. Those 3 schools are football and basketball schools and in populated areas where we may be able to increase TV revenues.

I don't know what the structure of the conferences would be but to me UT and OU still have a pretty easy path to the national championship considering the alternative. Would you rather play Mizzou in a Big XII championship game to get a chance to play for the National Championship or Oregon/USC???

Again, logically, it's all coming together.

The problem is where do those teams come from? You can't pick weak schools or you are just weakening your position for contract negotiations later.

Not if the supposed death penalty clause that's been thrown around is enacted. An exit fee of 70 to 90 million dollars would immediately make it a much more stable conference.

Agree. The Big East is far from stable. They have 8-9 football schools and 16 BB schools. And are most likely to have teams poached. C-USA is in the same category as the WAC and MWC. NON-AQ conference. Far less money. With the contracts in place and a commitment from Texas to stay put, the Big 12 suddenly becomes a pretty stable conference. The Pac 16 Conference would dilute the money so much that it makes no economic sense. Add in the time zone changes and travel costs and I don't see OU and OSU going. IMO, this is more about a power play to stave off the financial aspects of the LHN and make Texas turn it into a Big 12 Network of some sort. Or at least give massive compensation to the rest of the conference in some way.

The whole thing is on hold right now. aTm is on hold in their move to the SEC. And OU and OSU as well. So the Big 12 can not really aggressively pursue teams nor can they do anything until the whole thing shakes out. OU has the ball right now. The Big 12 is showing good strength in the Non-con schedule. Has the #1 team in the nation. Several members in the Top 12 or so. Contrast that with the relative weakness of the Big Ten. Wisconsin at #7. Big Ten is a conference full of TV sets and mediocre football teams. And their BB sucks even worse.
We can add two more teams for the Forgotten Seven. More votes, more power.
