Hate to even think about realignment stuff after a huge win, but that story is too big not to think about.

Just think about the ramifications of this if it happened...if Pitt and Syracuse went to the ACC you'd assume that nobody would be leaving the 16 team ACC for the Big 10. That would only leave Rutgers, ISU, KU, and Mizzou (plus ND who isn't actually AAU) as possible AAU Big 10 expansion candidates if the Big 10 ever did go to 16...

Didn't the ACC meet to discuss exit penalties last week?

Maybe the Big East comes to us and we keep our share of the exit fees and the fox TV contract.

So something like conference realignment scenario #56,214:

WVU/aTm to SEC
PITT/SYR to ACC
OU/OSU to PAC 12

BU/ISU/KU/KSU/MU/TT/UT + /TCU/LOU/RUT/USF/UCONN/CINCY and one more (BYU?)

East: Cincy, Iowa State, Louisville, Mizzou, Rutgers, South Florida and UConn
West:Baylor, BYU, Kansas, K-State, TT, UT and TCU

Big East basketball schools peace out and form their own non football conference.

Makes sense except for the TV money issue would have to have major issues with negotiations...The money issue would be an absolute mess.

I'm guessing that the ACC is getting jittery about the possibility of OU commiting to the Big 12 and seeing the possibility of losing Pitt and/or Syracuse to the Big 12. If the Big 12 survives this, schools are going to make it very difficult for others to leave.

Well, no matter what happens, we just beat two BCS qualifiers from the last two seasons and in the process broke a 10 game home winning streak for UCONN. We also beat the #2 team in the FCS which isn't anything to brag about, but they were a solid team and they just beat another ranked FCS team last week. If anyone says we don't belong, they are clueless. We already have the stats to belong, attendance, bowl games played in over the last decade, revenue, etc. Our play is just making our case stronger.

I'm really not worried about anything right now. There is no way we don't have a spot to land.

That would be 4 14 team conferences with Big 10 having 12 with ND 69 BCS teams.

14 teams would give you 6 division games and could have protected rival with 2 other that you play 1 out of 3 years.

We don't have to take them all. Diving up the pie that much doesn't make that much sense. Cherry-pick the best and leave the rest. Louisville is a given. WVU if they are there. Maybe Cindy for Ohio exposure and travel concerns? Or TCU if Texas leaves? Screw rutgers and uconn.

As long as we keep the conference alive, we have the b12 tv contracts until they expire. 2nd tier money is huge and long-term. 1st tier is up in 2015?

No, if half the teams leave the contracts will be renegotiated.

Someone will link it, but there's a good legal case that they cant force an early renegotiation in our contract due to having their hands in the deals for the other conferences that would be poaching our teams.

There is an argument that they would keep the contract because it is easier than getting sued. But that is just an internet argument so far. Who knows I'd that would really be the case.

After talking with some members of ISU's athletic dept (business side, not coaches), they believe this is the case. IF there is a conference, we are good with contracts until they renew. After that??? We may be screwed.

But we have to keep the conference together.

with the Big East losing 2 schools (2 that have been rumored with the BIG10) that may open up some more landing spots for ISU.

just got done watching the replay of the game (had to make sure ISU still won)

Or open the possibility of the Big 12 poaching schools from the Big East (TCU, Cincy, Louisville??)

Oh boy, here we go...don't know how this may affect us good or bad yet, but this was just posted in the other thread...

Pitt, Syracuse send ACC letters of application - CBSSports.com

The Atlantic Coast Conference has received letters of application from Pittsburgh and Syracuse, a high ranking league official told CBSSports.com. The ACC also has recently been contacted by 10 schools, the official said. However, they would not disclose what conferences those schools were from.

Also, at last week’s ACC presidents meeting in Greensboro, N.C., the league’s presidents “unanimously” voted to increase the ACC’s exit fee to $20 million. This takes affect immediately.

The New York Times reported Friday that Syracuse, Pitt and the ACC had been in talks about the two Big East schools joining the league. Representatives from all three declined comment to the Times.

ACC commissioner John Swofford has said previously that the ACC will always be mindful and do what’s best for its member institutions.”
