I think as this thing actually comes to a head it's going to look pretty scary, but I also believe that ISU will turn out okay in the end. We just need for the bad guys to pull the trigger and leave the conference so ISU can move on to a more stable situation.

I think ISU to the B1G is a real possibility and where we ultimately end up when the dust settles. Hang in there fellow Cyclone fans. :D

I have a strong suspicion that 5 years from now we're going to look back at this meltdown and realize what is about to happen will end up being great for ISU.

For some reason, it feels less likely that this is going to happen this year than it did last year. I would say confidence was just as high last year that those same schools were headed to the PAC. I would say the one thing that scares me most right now is that both OU and Texas have their meetings tomorrow. That doesn't give Beebe much time for a hail mary attempt at saving the Big 12. If the PAC and Texas can hammer out details of the tv contract by the time OU meets tomorrow, it could be over. If not, this thing could drag on for some time as Texas continues to stall looking for the best deal it can find.

All of these same things were probably said by fans from SMU, Houston, etc back in the early 90's. This isn't the first time schools have been left in the dust. It just hits us hard because we're going to be on the outside looking in for the very first time.

At least I realize we have fault too. Years/Decades of overlooking the athletics program, especially football definitely plays its part.

Think about it, UCONN looking at the ACC, it will go to 16 if that happens.

If the Big XII falls apart it will be because UT, TT, OU, OSU went to the Pac 12 to make 16

If that happens, SEC will get to 16 and B1G will go to 16.

KU, MU, ND, ISU are academic and geographical fits for B1G....

Dust settled, we are in B1G if our "best friends" from the south go Pac

Big XII survives or we are in the B1G

Pitt and Syr to ACC were the best things that could happen to ISU because it took Pitt off the table for the B1G.

I'm not worried.

I think you are right oldwiseman.

Everyone needs to settle down, nothing has happened yet.

If that's what makes you feel better.

It could get that bad. No one wants us because all the things we bring to the table doesn't matter.

We all need to come to terms with this...

No, it could not. I want to be nice in this reply but its incredibly difficult due to your incredibly idiotic statement of Mo Valley.

ABSOLUTE worst case would be MWC.

B10
OU pulls its head out and we grab 3 BE teams
B12 remainders merge with BE remainders
MWC
No possiblility of anything lower than that. At that point we're folding up our athletic department and telling the state that somehow we need a bailout to cover millions in debt that our AD cant pay for anymore.

What makes me mad is the greed at hand here and how this all is just so corrupt, and the fact that so many less deserving teams reap benefits of some luck. Northwestern, Wazu, Vandy, Duke, Wake Forest. No way these teams should be in a Super Conference.

Not sure about the rest of those schools in their conferences, but Northwestern is a founding member of the B1G and has been with the conference since 1896. Staying with a conference, for whatever reasons, for 115 years isn't exactly "luck". /shrugs

What I want to know is if David Boren and OU are still "our best friends" in all of this....

What do you say RebeccaCy?

Are we still OK?

Amen. Your post is dead on, but possibly too reasoned for the Internet.

Folks, there's no reason to panic right now. If it blows up and we get left out, we have time to panic then.

This thing with people breathlessly posting every tweet that comes out, even though the ones coming out are from the consistently inaccurate sources that we've railed against over and over here are just creating their own heart trouble.

Can't do more than wait and see right now. Wait and see, panic later. Or not at all.

Perhaps the Big East needs to Survive for Basketball and the Big 12 for Football including the non-football members in Basketball. Makes basketball the focus of the league and allows schools like ISU, Kansas, Kstate to save face that they would be in a pretty good league with all of the perks of branding Big East Basketball, in return the Big East leftovers get to play in the new Big 12 for Football. Big East Tournament for Basketball competes with the ACC for attention on the East Coast giving the football brands a little more life.

I realize this is all about football, but if there is going to be a positive for ISU and if that is not the big 10, then the left out teams need to focus on how saving their brands in Basketball. Football would be fine as long as we are playing regionally relevant games, I have never gone to a game to watch Texas or OU, rather the Cyclones and I always liked game day better when I thought there was a reasonable chance for victory.

Football TV money is a problem no matter what, but focus on what we can do to stay relevant and that is somehow to buddy up with the Big East Basketball brand even with out Syracuse, UCONN and Pitt. KU might go for this as well.

Today and tomorrow could prove to be some sad days for Cyclone athletics. Northwestern, Duke, Vandy and Wake are all very strong academically...there was once a day when academics were considered important in college athletics...it's hard to fathom these days with the obsession with TV contracts and money

No possiblility of anything lower than that.

MWC would still be a huge blow to us.

Our only chance of being relevant in football is to run the table in the conference (beating boise State and TCU - never going to happen) and beat Iowa in a given year. Actually, once we drop out of the Big 12, Iowa won't even schedule us so forget that idea.

Fans are going to have to travel to places like Fort Collins, Laramie, Boise, and Albuquerque. So much for a fan base that "travels well".

Our basketball program would disintegrate with no relevant competition and even more space between us and the east coast where we recruit.

We'll be no better off than UNI in 2 years. Welcome to irrelevance, everyone.

Duh!
Nothing good is coming from this fear-mongering and following all these rumors. I am going to step away from this thread, topic and CF for a couple days and wait for something to actually happen. I encourage others, especially those that are tied, to do the same.

We will go East before we go West, IMO. B12/Big East leftovers is acceptable. Maybe add in a C-USA team or two to make it a bigger footprint.

I don't see any way we end up in the MWC.

with all due respect, you have absolutely no clue what you type, UNI is in the FCS, Moutnain West may be worst case, but there are too many relevant competitors that seemingly appear to be left out so most likely we all team up, play games, and get to talk about the good ole days and how we were all in better conferences and on the cusp of greatness before the rug was pulled out...but MWC seems a distant possibilty but its far better than the MVC
