This might be me making stuff up but I believe the Big 12 licensed the name Big 14 just in case? Or am I imagining things?

You are correct.

Boom, here we go.

Alright OU/UT, let's do this thing.

A&M out... BYU, Louisville, Cincinnati, TCU, West Virginia in.

Divisions with ISU/Mizzou/KU/KSU/L'ville/Cincy/WVU and UT/BU/TTU/TCU/OU/OSU/BYU.

9 conference games, play 6 division foes and 3 of the others with no protected rivalries.

For the record... that would be 63 conference games each year. Currently the Big 12 has 45. Heck the Big 10, SEC, ACC, and Pac-12 right now all have 48 conference games a year. Having 63 = huge bump in TV payout.

Uh oh

I am not sure about that. Big East was to renegotiate their TV contract next month. Two schools have left the conference making that renegotiation impossible with teams in limbo till 2014. They are playing one of the cards they have in order to reach a settlement. Previous penalty for leaving the conference was only $5 million.

Sounds like there is more than one group in the PAC 12 who don't like the idea of PAC-12 expansion.

I always though the Original 8 members were still sore from Utah and Colorado. They may prevent another move.
I hope to hell they do! I'd laugh and laugh! Selfish, back-stabbing, idiotic jerk-offs!

I only have one question, why does anyone think BYU will join the Big Tweast? They didn't want to join and save the Big 12 which would have been a much better situation than this new conference. I don't think they will give up their independence to join unless they are very insecure about being independent in the new superconference NCAA.

If this were to happen, there is no way we can allow all the Texas teams to be in the same division. They need to be split up evenly to help the rest of the schools have better access to Texas recruits. We also don't want to have all the power in the south again because that is a bad set up. Just looking at it those divisions are even more unballanced than the old north / south setup and I'm not sure how it can be done, but the divisions are going to have to be split evenly in terms of power or that collection of schools won't work.

Proactively... the next step after super conferences is all BCS schools to break off and no longer play NCAA football. So at some point may be the only way in.

I think this is likely. They are certainly on the edge of being left out. The Pac-12 will not take them and they would have no other options than the Big 12/Tweast/14/whatever.

Plus, if the new Big 12/Tweast/14/whatever had equal revenue sharing and either got rid of or severely held the LHN in check...it would be foolish to not join up.

*We have had access to Texas recruits with the old North/South divisions.
*The power does not lie in the state of Texas because they're in the same division... the power lies and will continue to lie in the state of Texas because of UT for as long as they're in the conference.

I see geographic divisional alignment staying, because this conference will be pretty spread out and because it keeps UT and OU in the same division. If they are split up, we would have protected crossover rivalries and they would likely be playing each other twice in one season a lot of the time... something neither would want.

UT and OU know that they will be the big boys in a division with TCU, Tech, Baylor, and Okie State. With the exception of TCU, they've been doing it for years. The question is who #7 would be. I wonder if they wouldn't want BYU in their division for some reason.

I keep seeing rumors of KU to the ACC on twitter and can't understand that reasoning. The basketball would be great but KU would literally be on an island way away from the rest of the conference. Travel would be a huge pain

Agree. That south is stacked. I doubt BYU would agree to come under those circumstances. Sure they'd make more money but would lose 3-4 games every year. I think BYU and someone else moves from South to the North - Tech? OSU? TCU? We need a little better balance. Just get it done already we can worry about this **** later. Make it happen !!

If we at ISU get any say in divisional alignment in a conference with UT and OU I will eat my hat.

Agreed. I will celebrate it as the biggest victory in a long time. Back to 4 non conf games. Division championship possible. Not playing OU/UT every year. Great basketball conference as well.

Would we play a 19 game conference schedule? 12 with divisional opponents and than 7 with cross divisional?

That would be amazing. More big games on big time TV. Great exposure. Better ticket sales...

And not that it matters much in the big picture.. but wrestling has a place.
