There are still some questions to be answered in the PAC-12, Utah's loss to Colorado today gave UCLA the South division title and they are currently 6-5 with USC (Most likely a Loss) and the Pac-12 North winner (Most likely a loss) still to play. That may put UCLA at 6-7 and out of bowl contention unless they can get a waiver.

How UCLA could lose bowl eligibility - Los Angeles Ucla Blog - ESPN Los Angeles

That's an interesting situation.

Pac-12 South is terrible. Of course, if USC weren't on good-ol' probation, this scenario would be a non-factor. It's extremely unlikely even a weak divisional winner would get shut out of a bowl under normal circumstances.

But it's still possible. That, and the fact LSU is pretty much a lock for BCS title game regardless of outcome of SEC championship, makes me dislike the divisional/conference championship game format.

Some of us talk about the grueling nature of the current Big 12 round robin. At least it leaves no stone unturned.

The UCLA situation is very interesting because those who want these bogus megaconferences want to set up a playoff using division winners, what happens when no one is on probation and a division winner has an overall record of 6-6 or 7-5 and they get a chance for the playoffs over teams that are 10-2,11-1 etc in other conferences. It seems to me that your not solving your problems.

Thanks for this! The only thing is, I believe the Big 12 has only 7 tie-ins this year.

There are only 7 bowl tie-ins for the B12...Ticket City is not one this year although we will still likely fill it.

70 teams go to a bowl.

Today, 65 teams are eligible. Leaves 5 spots.

15 are on the bubble:

ACC- NC State 5-6. Only has Maryland left. Probably gets eligible.

Big XII- Texas Tech 5-6. Only has Baylor left. Doubt they get eligible.

B1G- Purdue 5-6. Only has Indiana left. Probably gets eligible.

Big East-
-Pitt 5-6, Cuse left. Beats Cuse @ home. Yes.
-Cuse 5-5, Cincy and Pitt left. Loses to Cincy, Loses @ Pitt. No.
-South Florida 5-6, WV left. Going with no.
-UConn 4-6, Rutger and Cincy left. Doubt it.

Independents- All already in or out.

Pac 12- All already in or out.

C-USA-
East Carolina & Marshall both 5-6, play each other in last game. Only one in.

MWC- Air Force, 6-5, played two FCS. Have to get to 7 wins, @ Colo St. Will say yes.

MAC-
-All either in or out.

SEC-
-Miss St 5-6. Host Ole Miss. Will get it.
-Tennessee 5-6. @Kentucky. That's a toss up.
-Vandy 5-6. @Wake Forest. I'll say no.

Sun Belt- All already in or out.

WAC-
-Hawaii 5-6. Play 13 games. Must win last 2. Doubt it will happen.
-Utah St 5-6. Host Nevada, @ New Mexico St. Will say yes.

So with my "yes's" and toss ups that's 8 more teams. That's 73 in, with 70 spots. MAC has 6 teams eligible, but no way they get that many in.

Just kind of a running tally to help keep track.

(No USC, now no Miami)
70 teams go to bowls.....Good God. I'm sorry but going to a bowl isn't what it used to be. Money is what rules the game so look for an "every team gets in" men's basketball tourney and football teams with losing records being in bowl games to be the norm.

Updated. Air Force winning (31-7 right now) makes it 70 with the winner of Pitt/Syracuse getting eligible.

If ISU doesn't make it, I will freak out.

You said there are 8 bubble teams. The extra teams from the Sun Belt, and MAC, don't have a chance. IMO, ISU is going to pick up an at large game at the very worst. BIG Win over the #2 team that was watched by everyone and a decent fan following will ensure that the Clones get a bid from a Big 12 bowl or one of the Bowls that couldn't get a Conference game tie-in.

Assuming that ND takes one of the Big East bowls, there will be 3 at-large spots and 3 at-large teams form AQ conferences. Potentially ISU and 2 Big 10 teams (Illinois, Purdue, or Northwestern).

Its not like this is something new. There have been tons of bowls for a long time now. Complaints about this are beginning to enter 'we landed on the moon' territory.
