Iowa got the same screw job in Cedar Falls we always get.

29-3 free throws. Iowa isn't good, but those two teams aren't that drastically different, not even close.

I remember about a decade ago seeing ISU with 13 fouls at half to zero for UNI.

Iowa fan friend of mine said they mentioned on the broadcast that there is no contract for the series to continue because of Big12/B1G conference schedule changing.

I really hope we never play in Cedar Falls again, screw job every time. We'll get it next year, 100% guaranteed.

We got so screwed we won 3 years ago!

Is it ever that the other team is better or is it always that the referees are out to get Iowa State?

The refs were out to get PV A&M tonight! They were 5/12 from the stripe and had 26 fouls compared to 24/36 with 15 fouls for Iowa State. Damn refs!

Take away 8 of the FT's for stupid Iowa technicals, like McCabe messing around with a deadball. As a coach you don't go bezerk when your team is down by two and in the game on the road. The officiating may have been poor, but Frannie didn't do his team any favors by getting a T and the bench getting a T.

The solution for both programs is to get better. If Iowa or ISU were better teams, it wouldn't be that big of an issue.

Losing in-state rivalries happens. Sucks when you have more talent. But a disciplined team can and will take advantage of more talent ones when they make as many mistakes.

Note: I'm not saying Iowa didn't get a fair shake tonight, I didn't watch all the game, but from what I saw it was a lot of them shooting themselves in the foot. They were competitively in the game, complained about fouls, and it got out of hand due to techs. Again, didn't see all of it, but that's what it looked like. If they kept their heads, they could have had a chance.

I agree with the outcome, but not the why. We shouldn't stop playing them because we get "screwed" there (I don't believe that we do, they were just better in most cases). I think we should stop playing there because it is in ISU's interest to not play them on the road. At Hilton or not at all...

This.

It doesn't matter if that crew is as unprofessional as they come, UI would have been smart to keep battling. They were in the game against a tough opponent on the road. Fran gave it away.

You are right, HFCS. I don't know why the others don't see it. Too much pride maybe. They think they're being rational, but they're being positively irrational. We can't give up playing them though, even though I know you weren't really suggesting that we should.

It sounds like what a hawkeye fan says about the cyclones in football when they lose. Seriously, just be better than the other team and win. PERIOD. Stop whining.

I can handle playing UNI on the road. They are at least a Iowa Regent school. Iowa State and Iowa are helping out the budget of a little sister school.

Now you want to talk about playing at Drake and I am with you! Why in the hell do we give a private school a home game? Never have understood that one...

That's Drake's national championship game, all you have to do is look at cost of the tickets for that game vs. a regular MVC game.

It is unusual for a major conference team to schedule an ongoing home-and-home series against a home-state mid major. Some teams (like Indiana) will do a home-and-home against an in-state mid-major, but it's usually just a two-year deal.

If you only have so many road games in the non-conference schedule (gotta keep a fixed number of home games for season ticket packages), most team opt to do home-and-homes with teams from other areas for the exposure.

I kind of like the setup, but it looks bad if the big boys insist on only home games right after they both lose to UNI and Drake.

It would actually be WORSE if UNI/Drake were always weak, because it would really limit what Iowa and ISU can do to beef up their SOS. At least they provide decent competition that doesn't drag down RPI.

I would mostly agree with this, though i wouldnt care if we told UNI 'at our place or not at all' either. You dont see many major programs setting up annual home and home series (as opposed to one-off contract situations or 2 and 3 for 1s) with midmajors, and especially not 2 of them every year.

Guys, they got screwed just like we usually get screwed in Cedar Falls. It's a stretch to say they'd have won the game but we'd be every bit as mad (and have been). We got jobbed like crazy at the dome a few times when they were a very bad team and we were solid even.

I didn't think we got screwed on the road at Drake this year at all, I do think we get hosed nearly every trip to Cedar Falls including the wins.

UNI had 8 fouls in the game with just a few minutes to go and ended with...15. Same way it always happens when we play there. The minute UNI has the win, it's a meaningless foul fest against them to level the box score.

There's something seriously wrong when the two teams you get screwed against nearly every time are Kansas and Northern Iowa.

Thank goodness we never jacked up ticket prices for Iowa or Nebraska or OK or TX in football.

Whose conference officials were used at UNI? I remember in football, we use Big 10 officials in Ames and big 12 officials in Iowa City. If the same rule holds in BB, then Iowa got screwed by their own conference officials.

In the Johnny Orr days, I was at a UNIdome close UNI-ISU game, where the UNI timekeeper didn't start the time clock for UNI possession till the UNI player hit half court to get more time for UNI at the end of the game, and the ISU crowd that was there let him know about it. Not doubting home cooking still exists. In that game at UNI, they also used an non sanctioned high school ref, who normally did SE Polk games, not college.
