Ah, alright. Was told it was when they left the WAC. Good to know.
It was right around that time, IIRC. Also, love the sig. I can take credit for 50% of the posts he was responding to. LOL

I think you guys are all taking his post too literally. I believe he's trying to make a broader comment than just ISU = BSU.
What I think he's saying is more comparing the potential status of Iowa State/CPR as media darlings to Boise State's rise to prominence during the Hawkins/Petersen era. CPR/ISU have been given some very favorable airtime (well earned, I might add) with CPR's locker room speeches and the Okie St. win. It's a huge boon to the program to have so much positive attention focused on it. At this point, very few people outside of Iowa City have many bad things to say about CPR, and ISU has got sort of a "little engine that could" glow about it, right now. America loves an underdog.
Similar vibe to when Boise State beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.
Obviously the attention has to be met with wins, or the spotlight will fade, and this is where Boise State has capitalized. It's an opportunity to be seized. If we can seize it, there's no reason ISU cannot vault itself to the next level. Not necessarily a title contender, but a program with consistent success, and some level of national recognition.
Considered in that light, the OP makes a good point.
I am a hater of Boise State and the premise of this thread makes me queasy.
Agreed to an extent. Boise State was a cute story for awhile. They were the little guy that jumped up and took down some of the big boys but then ESPN ran so wild singing their praises all of the time that many people started to hate Boise State... myself included. If ISU can keep receiving pub from ESPN to a little lessor degree then what Boise State did then I would be all for it. I just don't want to see ISU's publicity get to the point where people can't stand ISU anymore.
I can't even watch a Boise State game anymore without rooting like hell for them to lose.

One of the points (started at the beginning of the post and finished at the end of the post) was that BSU played alot on Thursday and Friday nights, and that ISU should do the same thing. That's a terrible idea, and I'm not sure how you would take that comment any other way than literally.
you're correct. I disagree with that part of it, although having the Okie State game on Friday night was huge, this year. We were basically the only game in town, drew huge ratings, and got ESPN love all to ourselves for the evening. Had that game been Saturday at eleven, it never would have received the attention that it did.
Now, I don't know that you can plan for that going forward, but the way the situation played out, this year, was a perfect storm.
True, It did play out well this year. But sometimes Ames High has good FB teams. What if they had a playoff game that night? IMO, repeated scheduling on Friday night will eventually cause hard feelings with the high school FB crowd. Those are the sort of grass roots folks that ISU doesn't need to antagonize. It doesn't seem wise to make a habit of forcing people to choose between watching their kids/grandkids play FB and attending an ISU game.

I can see your point but don't all of the so called "big programs" have just as many haters as they do fans? It's not necessarily a bad thing to have fans of other programs hate you because it probably means you whooped them good enough or spoiled their season enough to earn that hate. Or in certain cases, your fans are total **** douches (I'm looking at you Mizzou)
In a lot of cases, you have to be relevant to be hated and if I am picking being hated or being irrelevant, I'll go with hated.
If ISU got rid of all academic standards, then maybe they can recruit the same players.
Also, BSU doesn't play the same schedule ISU does.......Boise would be a 7-8 win team in teh Big 12.
But, if ISU can use the spotlight as the vehicle to help attain success, then who cares if other people are sick of them after they attain it? Are you going to start hating ISU if they receive the type of attention BSU has received? I sure won't. I'd venture not many people on this board would, either. If other people do, BFD. Do you think Boise would trade their overexposure for anonymity?
