We've been receiving some nice quotes and coverages since CPR takes over. Yes, there have been some "This ......(insert a name) team shouldn't lose to Iowa State" but I can see that we are viewed as a team that can surprise big teams. And it's nice to hear comments or read articles about "Ames, Iowa" without the follow up like "cold place, in the middle of nowhere, etc"
Agreed to an extent. Boise State was a cute story for awhile. They were the little guy that jumped up and took down some of the big boys but then ESPN ran so wild singing their praises all of the time that many people started to hate Boise State... myself included. If ISU can keep receiving pub from ESPN to a little lessor degree then what Boise State did then I would be all for it. I just don't want to see ISU's publicity get to the point where people can't stand ISU anymore.
I can't even watch a Boise State game anymore without rooting like hell for them to lose.

But, if ISU can use the spotlight as the vehicle to help attain success, then who cares if other people are sick of them after they attain it? Are you going to start hating ISU if they receive the type of attention BSU has received? I sure won't. I'd venture not many people on this board would, either. If other people do, BFD. Do you think Boise would trade their overexposure for anonymity?
One of the points (started at the beginning of the post and finished at the end of the post) was that BSU played alot on Thursday and Friday nights, and that ISU should do the same thing. I'm not sure how you would take that comment any other way than literally. In fact, as I read the OP, it seems to be a justification for playing a bunch of Thursday/Friday games. That's a just terrible idea on various fronts...

you're correct. I disagree with that part of it, although having the Okie State game on Friday night was huge, this year. We were basically the only game in town, drew huge ratings, and got ESPN love all to ourselves for the evening. Had that game been Saturday at eleven, it never would have received the attention that it did.
Now, I don't know that you can plan for that going forward, but the way the situation played out, this year, was a perfect storm.
True, it did play out well this year. But sometimes Ames High has good FB teams. What if they had a playoff game that night? IMO, repeated scheduling on Friday night will eventually cause hard feelings with the high school FB crowd. Those are the sort of grass roots folks that ISU doesn't need to antagonize. It doesn't seem wise to make a habit of forcing people to choose between watching their kids/grandkids play FB and attending/watching an ISU game.

You're right. That's why I don't necessarily agree with that part of his post. It's a risk/reward thing. This year, ISU/Okie State was up against the Iowa High School 4A championship game. I heard a little griping about it prior to the game, but next to nothing, since. Had we been beaten soundly, that tune might be changed.
Regardless, it's all about seizing the opportunity while you have the spotlight, because the spotlight will move along, and leave you behind, and there's no guarantee that it will ever come back.
I can see your point but don't all of the so called "big programs" have just as many haters as they do fans? It's not necessarily a bad thing to have fans of other programs hate you because it probably means you whooped them good enough or spoiled their season enough to earn that hate. Or in certain cases, your fans are total **** douches (I'm looking at you Mizzou

Ask Utah what their ranking was this year after playing in a BCS conference. TCU is going to experience the same thing. BSU would not be ranked if they played in a BCS league. They have a few more losses.

+1 Haters gonna hate. I'd rather the Oklahomas of the world hate us than enjoy playing us because it's a win on their schedule.
They main knock you hear about Boise is their weak schedule and weak academics. They would have trouble making that argument against ISU.
I bet a lot of Oky State fans are not happy with us nowadays.

We are getting more exposure and hopefully we can back it up against the big boys in the future as well.

I like the spirit of this thread but ISU cant be the next Bozo state.
Bozo State clown college plays 10 automatic W's every year and only really has to play one or two teams, where ISU plays a full BCS conferance schedule and even adds in a couple BCS teams in the non conferance season. Its just not reasonable to think ISU will easily get to 10-11 wins every year like Bozo State does.

KState is the Boise St of the Big XII and they've shown if you have no standards you can recruit to anywhere.
With a 2.8 GPA and an ACT of 15 out of high school, you can be considered a possible candidate for Boise State. And most schools still accept students that aren't in their range of what a student must get to be accepted.
We need a Gold Turf Field because ten years from now Texas will have a solid gold weight room, training table, and stadium.

True. I think more or less Iowa State can never truly be like a Boise State from that perspective. Boise State was a media darling that most people look at as a program that isn't worthy of all of the hype they receive. Sure they win.... a lot but they are playing a glorified high school schedule. Now Iowa State on the other hand... hard to knock the kind of schedule that they are playing year in and year out as far as if they actually deserve the hype they are getting with their success.
