The new iPad

I know what the differences are between the iPad 2 and The new iPad, but I would like to get some peoples' opinions on if the difference is worth the extra $100.

Another question I have is if anyone has come across websites or anything else that doesn't work on the iPad. I have an iPhone, and I notice that not everything shows up on CF when I view threads on it. Is it like that on iPad?

Also I'd like to hear some pros and cons of the iPad, like what it can or can't do compared to a laptop. I'm thinking it may basically replace my laptop since pretty much all I do is surf the internet, listen to music, watch YouTube videos, etc.

I own and iPad 2, I am not upgrading due to can't justify the cost. However, if I didn't have an iPad i would definitely be getting the new iPad. I feel when buy that type of device you should always buy newest as you won't want to replace as fast. Just my thought.

Second, I use my iPad all the time for CF as well as most websites, the only issue is if you run into flash, which I am sure you are aware of. Otherwise, and for the most part I have no problems with websites.

I pretty much only use my iPad at home, my comp has turned into a storage/streaming device. If you are surfing the internet, listening to music, watching videos, I can't think of a better device to do it on. These are things I use mine for and it performs the task very well. Really can't complain at all.

Its new screen resolution is so good it melts faces. For that alone I think it's defiantly worth the extra 100 bucks.

I just bought a new iPad and went through the same thought process as I had no tablet prior to the purchase. I figured why not spend the extra $100 just to make sure I had the latest and greatest. Although it's unlikely I'll notice any difference between the new iPad and iPad 2, $100 is like 1 tank of gas.

With that said, I think after my first couple days of use I will use it just for the simple things. I suspect I can do a whole lot more with it but not sure I'll have the time to figure all those things out.

What I really like about it is it's size and battery life as my laptop only last like 20 minutes and therefore really isn't portable.

If anyone knows how to get PC based music (mp3s) onto the iPad quickly, please advise.

Like was mentioned here you are likely noticing apples lack of flash support. Which would be a issue for web based games and the such.

I don't own an iPad, but I would guess you would do it through iTunes via the music library. You should be able to just drag and drop it in there.

This is correct. You just import individual or folders of mp3s into iTunes, then drop them on your iPad.

I'm probably considered anti-Apple. I have an android phone, don't like apple computers, hate itunes, and haven't really been impressed by Apple computers. I have had multiple Ipod's and have been happy with those.


With all that in mind, I bought one of the new Ipads and so far I've been pretty impressed. I have a Dell laptop and I figured I'd use the Dell about 70% of the time and the Ipad 30% of the time. After using it for 3 days I'd say it's going to be about 90% Ipad. For just surfing Safari does an alright job. I prefer Chrome but Safari gets the job done. My wife has an Ipad 2 and to be honest on 95% of the applications you really can't see a big difference, they both look great. I also haven't noticed any difference in the speed of launching applications. I do think as more apps get converted you'll notice more of a difference. I can tell you that the camera and video are a lot better on the new Ipad.

What I like about the android phone is that I can make a bunch of changes. What I don't like about the android is that some of the apps seem to bog it down. I like the widgets on the Android which the Ipad doesn't seem to have.

Overall happier than I thought I'd be with the Ipad.

To the OP....no to me it's not worth the extra $100. It's basically a better resolution screen. At that small of screen size you wouldn't really notice.

Is it a great screen resolution and do app/web look awesome on it? Absolutely. Is it a giant leap perceptible to the regular eye? No.

This coming from a guy with a Macbook, iphone 4, and 1st gen iPad.

Basically, from what I've read, if you already own an iPad2, don't bother buying the iPad3 and save your money potentially for the iPad4 (just don't go to the store because you'll end up drooling all over it). If you don't already own an iPad2, and the extra $100 doesn't mean anything to you, then the iPad3 is totally worth it.
