Somewhere in the U.S.
It never started. It's a misconception some people have. It does often happen at private schools, so it's a logical assumption, but incorrect.

I was going to say, if it is true, I'm ******! I was on staff for 12 years and never heard about it.

As far as the scholarship for Bubu......he played only 21 minutes less than Gibson, primarily because of his injury, and playing 8 less games. He likely would have passed Gibson in minutes played as his average minutes per game was higher. Also, he had a higher scoring average than Booker. So, if you are going to give those 2 scholarships, then why not Bubu? IMO, scholarships should be based on their contribution, not on a player's personal situation.

I will trust FH to work this out. He and Bubu know what the deal is and I'm sure will work out something that is fair. It still leaves one open scholarship for next year even if you give one to Bubu. What I think this team needs is one more big......use it for that and all is well.

why don't we give a scholly to BuBu he deserves it. Why isn't he on a scholly to being with?

Did you ever consider that Bubu wants to win and he would rather Fred brought in another piece to the puzzle rather than taking a scholarship that would be nice but he doesn't need? I don't know if this is the case, but it wouldn't surprise me. The kid is a winner and wants to win a championship.

I never understood the thinking of that kid at OSU (I think) who was a millionaire but took a scholarship to play for Sutton anyway.

When I lived in Dayton, Ohio, I know they gave free tuition to children of faculty at Wright State University (which is public). I guess I'd assume they do this at all public schools in Ohio. It's a state by state basis it seems. But yea, definitely not true for ISU.

Umm...no. Look at the schools who recruited Sledge, and the ones that recruited Railey.

End of story.

Just because big time schools missed on him, doesn't mean he wasn't a miss.

End of Story.

Way up there
How so? He was a Freshmen who didn't get to play over Allen, Babb, Scott.

I shake my head at the "miss" label thrown at Freshmen.

I agree about the miss thing, but Tavon isn't comparable to the guys you named he was competing for time with. He couldn't steal minutes from Tyrus and Bubu, those are the guys he didn't outplay.

I do not understand the resistance of some to putting Bubu on scholarship permanently. He is here, he is working his *** off, he is valuable and he is getting minutes. I think there are very few players in D-1 getting quality minutes like Bubu who are not on scholarship. Not in major conferences anyway.

Because he'll continue to work his *** off and play quality minutes, regardless of whether or not he's on scholarship. Then we can use that scholarship to go get another player to give us more quality minutes. 2 > 1.

I have been a Bubu supporter since day 1. However, I'm of the mindset that as a walk-on he knew what he was getting in to. We need to upgrade talent in the post and 3 point shooting.

I'm more disappointed in the fact that Railey flipped his car while presumably drunk and got to stay, and Calvin Godfrey got canned for a weed violation. Godfrey would have been money off the bench or starting instead of ejim possibly.

He's more than earned it in my opinion too. He keeps proving people wrong. Color me a Bubu fan.
Let's do a Bubu a bigger service and get him a Big 12 championship or Final Four before he graduates. I'll bet he would trade either one of those for another year of scholarship any day and twice on Sundays. I'm a Bubu fan too.

This. I love Bubu, but we need as much talent as we can get. If we don't end up getting 2 guys, Bubu will definitely get one of them for the year at least.

I was told on October 23rd that the staff missed on Sledge and he wouldn't be back.

I won't dispute that he's more talented than Railey.

He was still a FR with less experience then them. You can't label a FR as a miss. It's a really ignorant statement that some make that makes me shake my head.

A HS phenom (think one and one players) who comes in and doesn't play at a school or doesn't live up to that hype is a miss. You can't put that label on a mid rated recruit out of HS as a miss.

Yeah if he was highly touted out of HS, gets to his Junior year and isn't sniffing the court...then you call him a miss.

Good luck to Railey. I do think he could be a decent post player for his jr and sr years.

Depends what you are aiming for.

On that note, the staff had a similar feeling about Railey after the Italy trip.

So, really these decisions aren't a surprise, but that doesn't make their presence on the team any less appreciated.

I will just be curious to see what Fred does next.

I don't know that Godfrey can come back? Isn't there a conference rule against it?

(I could be totally wrong here)
