Does it bother anyone if ISU get the reputation of taking players that have zero chance of ever making any kind of academic progress while in school? I know there were some rumblings about such issues when Larry was here. Larry won league titles so he basically got a pass on the subject, although you heard more about it as his teams started to not perform as well.

Nope. We're not Stanford, so we may as well excel in sports

What makes everone so certain Pelle is an academic risk? Is this a known fact, or just a rumor?

I dont know that he is, I just know thats his shot blocking hand. Similar to Cato. Ive always heard that leftys can block shots better, dont really know why.

Because most people shoot with their right hand the left-handed shot blocker has an advantage because they can reach straight up to block a right handed shot instead of reach across to the other side to block the shot.

Realistically, if Pelle signs...

PG-Lucious
SG-Babb
SF-Clyburn
PF-Ejim
C-Pelle

This is not knowing if Lockett signs with us.

This line up would be pretty sick. They could get up and down with the most athletic teams in the NCAA.

Does it bother Kentucky?

Seriously though......I don't see ISU (at least not with FH in charge) ever getting to that point with players. At least I hope not. I still can't figure out how Kentucky does it and has any scholarships to give with the supposed restrictions the NCAA puts on a school when players don't graduate or transfer.

From what I have read and heard, the transfers that FH has brought in so far have done fine academically. Maybe Pelle will just not work out.

the question is who cares. Get him in school like KU does every year with there group of misfits, and lets win some titles.

He was a 2011 commit to St Johns, but didn't qualify. I think it is assumed that he is still a risk, although he is attending a Prep school to amend this issue. I don't know that anyone knows for sure how he is doing. I'd like to think that if we are going to this much trouble to get him - that the staff thinks he will qualify.

I have a hard time believing that Pelle is a one and done player. He was rated as highly by scout and espn as he was by rivals, I think he was down around 70 or 80 on those services. He seems extremely raw and the evaluations are that he is atheletic and can block shots but is not a great rebounder, scorer, and lacks intensity.

With some work he could be great, but I just don't think he is one and done, unless he just doesn't want to be in college which might be the case if he struggles academically

I don't disagree with that, but my argument would be that he probably thinks of himself as a 1-and-done player.

Rivals wouldn't rate him as the #1 center in the nation if he was "raw". He is a good ball player.

just think, he was the #1 ranked center in last years class. A tall long shot blocker. Think anthony davis and Nerlens Noel.... drooling!

I don't think Fred would be too happy with that, as it would trash our APR

Fred has pretty strict rules regarding attending class. The whole team has to do morning sprints if someone misses a class. I would assume Pelle would feel all sorts of pressure from the team to get into the classroom on a daily basis.
