Here's a tweet directly from Pollard a couple hours ago: @IASTATEAD: At Big 12 meetings in Phoenix. *Best I have felt about the Big 12 in my seven years. *Great things on the horizon for the Cyclones and Big12

This says all I need to know about the Bowlsby thing.

I don't think you understand, the guy is going to SCREW us over. We may not even be allowed to play in division 1 athletics when he gets done with us.

Well, I'm glad you know more than the Athletic Director at Iowa State, who seems happy about it. Maybe you should apply to replace him. I mean, you couldn't do worse than JP, really.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::jimlad:

Look at the Big 12 map. Anyone in the conference offices who has any reason to think about ISU is a good thing.

Does anyone have any insight why Bowlsby is an "excellent" hire? Not trying to bang on anybody but I don't know much about him other than he was the AD at Iowa and Stanford.

There are plenty of posts in here about why he would be an excellent choice, including praise from your own AD.

He's just moving up the ladder and the U of I happened to be one of the rungs. Seems like he has done a good job everywhere he has been.

He did get his Masters there also. But I think it a good hire. He knows we need to get back to 12 teams, maybe more. He will also help with the TV contracts. Plus when you leave the best AD job in country, that tells me the Big XII is safe.

I had bigger apprehension when McCarney (Hawkeye captain and die hard Hayden worshiper) was hired as our FB coach than I do about a former Hickeye AD as our Comish.

This.

Here is thought that no one is touching: what if this leads to the Hawks being poached from the B1G?

I like the hire. To me, the most important thing he has going for him is that I'm sure he's not in OU or Texas' back pocket. At least for now.......

This is very important. Maybe he will bring sanity to the discussion on a conference network, even without Texas.

I think this is a great hire. I am sure he has plenty of friends and even some family with ties to ISU being from Waterloo. Do you think he wants to **** them off? If anything I think he will be pro ISU.

I think it's a very good hire. Being the AD at Stanford is almost like running a conference since it is the largest athletic dept. in the NCAA (They have 36 different sports). And for all of you worrying about the Iowa ties, if he was a Hawk for life, he never would've left for Stanford. And remember one of his bosses will be President Leath.

Bowlsby's seen how a commish like Delaney works first hand. Could be a good thing to have somebody with a pair to lead the way (if indeed he has said pair).

I think it's silly to believe he's going to have it out for us because he was at the U of I. He's a career administrator - not your mechanic.

I'm pumped because a very qualified AD at one of the best athletic departments in the country thinks the Big 12 commish job is a step up. That signals to me that we are headed in the right direction.

Wasn't he also chair of the NCAA selection committee for some time? You don't get that job with out the respect of your peers. This is a solid hire IMO.

There are plenty of posts in here about why he would be an excellent choice, including praise from your own AD.

Pollard and him being familiar is probably a benefit for ISU but I was looking to see what specific qualifications that he has that make him a good hire as commish. Being an AD gives you insight in how college athletics run but being a commish is whole other ball game working TV deals and trying to get all members on the same page.

Could I be hoping too much that his experience with the BIG and Pac12 gives the B12 opportunity to form their own network?

That would be effing fantastic for the whole conference (not just UT).

Note, they did talk about a "sister network" to the LHN in Big12 meetings. This network would be for schools who want to sell their Tier 3 rights.

I would prefer that the LHN be scrapped and a full Big12 Network start up though. We could use the LHN framework if they wanted to.
