Here is the North Carolina Tar Heel reacton... this is quite funny considering they were flat out making fun of the notion FSU would ever leave for a conference with such crappy academics as the B12... Now they are praying for an SEC invite... lol

Scout.com: Death knell of the ACC in Football?

First reply says it all "that's what you get when you add schools like Syracuse instead of football schools like WVU".

I think the tread over there is pretty entertaining, but at the same time I think of how close we were to becoming a statistic ourselves.

I'm so, so happy we're in with the big-time crowd. Now we gotta make some noise.

My Thoughts on Realignment.

I'm just snowballing here, but I thought I would post this up and see what others thought of it.

I'm starting to believe that if we go to super conferences (which it looks like is going to happen) things are going to look up for Iowa State Athletics. Wouldn't recruits be interested in going to a "major" conference school rather than a division 2 school? I mean yes, they already do this, but with the way things are shaping up it seems as if some of the smaller schools are going to be left out in the cold. I remember this feeling last year that we were going to be going somewhere less than appealing. Being on the other side sure does feel good.

I guess my question is, is if we go to "super conferences", wouldn't this help Iowa State become more of a major player in the athletics world, just because some schools are going to be left out? If not, please explain your reasoning.

Also, how much more money would we get if we went to 16 teams? I'm guessing quite a bit more, which would help us in the long run as well. But I can also say that all the other teams are going to be getting just as much so we might just stay in the same spot.

Another question I have is: What is it going to take for Iowa State to become a consistently winning team in a super conference like setting? Big Money Donors? Better Facilities (were getting them right now). I know the obvious answer is talent, but how do we bring that in? We are in Iowa after all.

Re: My Thoughts on Realignment.

I agree, going to 48 schools would be good for ISU, considering much of our competition for recruits would not be one of those 48 schools. There would be a much bigger step from those other conferences to ISU's level then.

I was thinking...

This conference consolidation could be beneficial for ISU in the sense that by culling the college football universe to a select set of teams in 4 conferences, it also filters out the best recruits to those teams as well. Overall this is going to raise the level of football in Ames like we've never seen before.

Have the playoffs and championship just been established? It looks like the Rose Bowl and the Champions Bowl are the semi-finals of a conference-champs-only national championship. All ESPN needs to do is establish the championship game and its done.

Is the next step elimination of the NCAA from the scenario? That's been the rumor for some time. No need for them to govern this new four-conference league. With elimination of the NCAA we will likely see some sort of pay for players and dramatic changes in recruiting regulations. I guess we're seeing the NFL Development league ala ESPN come to fruition. Iowa State has a franchise! Time to celebrate for the State of Iowa - huge economic benefit.

Still think the Big XII has no chance at ND? "Not in a million years" is what some have said. It should seem apparent that the chances have now been increased dramatically that we will soon be watching Iowa State play ND in a regular season conference game. Anybody know any good restaurants in South Bend?

For those that are concerned about Iowa State's relative permanence at the table, keep in mind that the Big XII is going to a 13-year grant of rights. I recognize that ESPN's power to create our new system also represents their power to change it. But...

I for one welcome our new ESPN overlords.:twitcy:

And this is what got you your little "vacation".:policeman:

Yes, Hawaii is nice this time of year. Chris and Company got together and sent me on a all expenses paid trip there. Thanks everyone for the donations.

Re: My Thoughts on Realignment.

Attendance rates seem to follow athletic success at many universities. So, one would expect that registrations would continue to rise at Iowa State as a result and that they might even rise at a faster rate. More people today tend to include athletics in their college decision.

Jamie Pollard mentioned the fact that more Iowa high school students are attending Iowa State than any other college. Good to see that we can offer another benefit for our best and brightest to stay home.

Maybe just as importantly, having Iowa State in one of the four will be a big benefit economically. More students, more fans at games, better quality-of-life, etc. All the same reasons that cities want to have national sports franchises. Just look at Minneapolis and the new NFL stadium - taxpayers pay the bill in order to have the team.

With all these conference moves, and rumored moves going on, would we see an ACC-Big East merger, or simply the ACC annexing the Big East after that conference collapses? The Big East looks to be the biggest victim in all this realignment speculation right now. The rest of the D1-BCS schools are just afterthoughts. My guess there will be mergers among the "lower tier" conferences in order to possibly (vainly?) increase their football value, and to increase their MBB value as that sport probably becoming their major revenue producing sport with conference consolidation hitting the fan. Could we see possibly dozens of, more than likely at least a few schools dropping FB entirely (or dropping to D1-FCS status) and relying on their MBB programs for AD funding, as they cannot keep up with the power conferences in FB funding? Doesn't look good for the schools being left out of the big FB TV trough. My guess is MBB becomes more competitive with FB consolidating the way it seems to be doing now. Schools need to find a way to fund their ADs adequately.

B1G released their payouts to the schools. $24.6 mil. that figure doesn't seem as big to me anymore for some reason.

STLtoday : Big Ten payouts estimated at $24.6 million

Pilfered from ShaggyBevo post

I just got word that FSU is going to agree to terms with the Big 12 on membership. They may be announced alone or with another eastern team in tandem. Going to 12 with FSU and another will bump the contract to close to 24 million per team including Big12 championship game revenue-but not including new bowl with SEC(that could be worth as much as $3 million per team), or Tier 3 rights which FSU will control. FSU is not getting Miami in, Miami does not have the votes to get in. They are promising FSU games with TX and OK every year. Dodds is open to 14 now because of the SEC alliance we are forging. unless someone like ARK or ND can be turned then 14 is probably as high as we go. FSU will pay $7 million to get out of the ACC because we will pick up the tab for $10 mill and loan FSU the other 3.
So what is the hold-up on Clemson now?...the B12 now has a lot more options to consider. The word is that the SEC wants to stay at 14 for a few years and see how it works out before expanding again. VT and a few others in the ACC are getting nervous. VT is now in the picture for the B12(as is Pitt, MD, and others) and it seems a school from the ACC has contacted the B1G---and the B1G is listening.
I know that nothing is signed yet, but they have a verbal agreement on these terms and it is in the process of becoming legally binding.
The ACC is dead as a football conference
