When was the last time Florida St was a football powerhouse? They haven't even won the pathetic ACC in forever.

Good point, but they at least have a title in the past 15 years. Clemson is the poster child for a program that has a big time "feel" but not the results. They're taken seriously, but in reality they haven't won **** in years. Last year's ACC championship was voided by the butt - ******* they took from the 3 loss Big East champ.

Sounds like things may be slowing down. Starting to see some backtracking from some of the "insiders". We'll see. Might be sticking with 10 for awhile.

Clemson and Florida State are quality historical and long term adds. Geography is big in College Football, they have that. I also like the recruiting potential for Iowa State in this scenario. Playing games in OK, TX, FL, SC is big time. Not to get recruits that want to go to Florida State or Texas, but recruits that might be considering other northern geography teams. I think we recruit better against much of the B1G and if the ACC is shut out, then all over the East Coast. Thats a lot of quality players that may not have considered Ames as a destination in the past. Winning in conference will be really tough, but the Divisional format helps as you should miss some of the top teams from time to time. You just aren't going to add below average teams so at least we are with the big boys and hopefully that provides the funding to continue to get more competitve. the alternative was a death sentence for Cyclone Athletics as we know them

Clemson and FSU both have the donor money base and recruiting base to be future national title contenders. FSU has paid dearly for Bobby Bowden staying on too long while Clemson has not fared well with recent coaching changes although Swinney appears to be a good long-term solution. Both draw around 80K/game in big-time atmospheres and both draw good ratings.

Frank Beamer is on his last legs at VA Tech and its questionable they will maintain that success when he retires. They sucked prior to his arrival. Bud Foster will likely replace Beamer so maybe they will still be very good. As a partner with FSU as Team #12, Clemson is an easy choice over VA Tech.

The only way FSU and Clemson backtrack from the B12 is if ESPN and/or Notre Dame bails out the ACC with another renegotiated TV contract.

:v_SPIN: ......but if you look at their recruiting past and present, they get players almost as highly rated as Oklahoma. Not sure what piece of the puzzle is missing.

Having a challenging schedule that prepares them for tough competition?

Both reasons probably are at least part of the problem.
Dabo Swinney never acquitted himself very well in the Orange Bowl last year. Not too many coaches have the proven pedigree that Bob Stoops possess. I would like to think we have a good, but young head coach who knows offensive. Paul Rhoads was the Pitt defensive coordinator that kept us from playing for the NC in 2007.....Oklahoma paid the price for that epic fail.

I agree wholeheartedly that Clemson and FSU are valuable additions that have "brand name" recognition and would make a ton of money for the Big 12.

What I'm saying is that on the field, these are not programs that are going to be kicking us around like Texas and OU so frequently have. There probably isn't a program in the country that has Clemson's following and name recognition, but has such a dearth of high level recent success. They always get credit as a Top 25 team in the pre season and rarely end up there.

There's a reason the Solid Verbal was so easily able to get the term "Clemsoning" to catch on with their fans.

I still think Lousville is a quality add that makes geographic sense. We'll see what happens. :) Obviously you take Clemson & FSU first though if they are available.
