Nice find. This MHVer poster has been noted as being extremely reliable for inside info. He eventually states:

The FOX contract is proposing an additional 45 million is what is expected. FOX has agreed to renegotiate if/when FSU and Clemson join. The 13 year contract would be extended probably 3 more years if FSU and Clemson are added because Fox wants Marquee match-ups to try their hand at nationally televised Friday night games.

Yeah forgot to add that in there. Most of the rest of the thread is everyone debating whether or not Marquee matchups on friday nights would work or not.

/discuss?

If we stick to 9 game schedule everyone will be in Texas A TON even if all four texas schools are in the same division.

Previously we played 5 division games and 3 out of division. That meant 3, 2 or 1 games against Texas teams a year and an average of just under one game IN Texas per year.

No we'd play 5 division and 4 out of division. Almost even. The least Texas you can ever get is two teams in Texas...I supposed you could have a year where you played both of them at home, but you'll have years both are in Texas if that's the case. Even if the 4 Texas schools are in the same division, there will be a schedule where a non Texas division school probably still plays 4 Texas teams.

I'm not a fan of the 9 game schedule AT ALL. But this is one area where it soothes every concern quite easily. It does the same for teams wanting FSU on the schedule. Even if FSU isn't in your division you play them 2/3 of the years now instead of 1/2 of the years with an 8 game 12 team league.

I'd go along with that, as long as we'd get a guarantee on at least one game in Texas each and every year. Would even be more excited with an 8 game schedule. In fact, I love the idea of being in the same division as FSU and getting a guarantee on the game in Texas. We'd be in both Florida and Texas every year!

I saw a divisional line up from a supposed insider yesterday that went like this:

OU
OSU
KU
KSU
ISU
WVU

UT
TTU
TCU
Baylor
FSU
Clemson

I thought this was the best I had seen in terms of competitive balance and protecting history. There would be a protected rivalry to preserve the sanctity of Red River and 9 games.

This is the one I REALLY and hoping for since it keeps in tact the old Big8 as much as possible. Include 2 protected rivals in a 9-game schedule and I think it would make a lot of sense. It kind of screws WVU but someone is going to have to take one for the team and they, as the newest member furthest away from others will need to make some concessions I think.

Finally- divisions that make sense. Clemson should be a protected rival for WVU as they would be their closest neighbor.

WVU would probably be a protected rival with FSU or Clemson.

There are a million "insiders" with different takes, so take it with a grain of salt, but this is probably the best competitive balance I've seen, and provides everyone opportunities to play in prime recruiting ground.

Why? Because Leaders & Legends sounds so brilliant? Why over think it?

East/West for Big 12 is completely unnecessary:

North:
ISU
KU
KSU
OKLAHOMA
OK STATE
WVU

South:
BAYLOR
CLEMSON
FSU
TEXAS
TCU
TX TECH

With a 9 game conference schedule you can set up cross division rivalries with two schools that you play every year (TX-OK, OK-FSU, WVU-CLEMSON, etc.), and rotate the other four. In this scenario, you're only missing two schools every two years and the 'Noles get to spend most of their time in Texas. Every other scenario I've seen looks ridiculous.

This is my favorite scenario out of all of them.

Sorry to say this boys but no matter what...the division is going to be tough as hell. Six of one half a dozen of the other.

No, I get that as well. This isn't CUSA we're playing in. I would just like for the conference to consider our historical/nearby/Big 8 rivals when setting up divisions instead of them thinking "Oh, they're Iowa State, we're just going to dump them with all the new east coast schools - they're lucky we're letting them stay in this conference anyway."

For the sake of fans in Lawrence, Ames and Manhattan, this better be the case. Fans from all three cities have always traveled well when two of these schools play each other, in most sports.

With Missouri gone, they are our closest, most historic rivals.

Texa$ played a part in crippling the conference, so let them shell out for travel expenses to the outlier cities. Leave us at least a piece of our Big 8 heritage.

Yeah. Maybe work the protected rvials like this? Thoughts?

DIVISION #1
OU (UT, FSU)
OSU (TTech, UT)
KU (TCU, Baylor)
KSU (Clemson, TTech)
ISU (Baylor, TCU)
WVU (FSU, Clemson)

DIVISION #2
UT (OU, OSU)
TTech (OSU, KSU)
TCU (KU, ISU)
Baylor (ISU, KU)
FSU (WVU, OU)
Clemson (KSU, WVU)

Thoughts on this arrangement. I kind of like it.

Cheers

Another senario based on some of the insider comments would be

OU
OSU
ISU
FSU
Clemson
WVU

TU
TTech
Baylor
TCU
KU
KSU

Sorry for the repeat. This alignment was already mentioned.

If the people pulling these strings (cough, cough, ESPN, cough) creates this godawful setup, Texas will have an easy path to the title every year. Honestly, of that group, who on a regular basis would stand in their way?

The best one I've seen geographically and competitively is...

Call it east or north
ISU
KU
KSU
OSU
OU
WV

Call it west or south
UT
TT
TCU
BU
CU
FSU

Actually, call it anything but Legends and Leaders. Call it Union and Confederate. Call it burgers and fries. Call it Hatfields and McCoys for all I care. Just get it done.

Switch WVU for TTU and you have a deal done for me.

That keeps

ISU, KU, KSU together,
WVU closer to east coast friends
Tech is a long way from anyone, but actually is reasonable from oklahoma.
Everyone plays against a Texas team

Do you guys not realize how many Texas teams are in the conference? WE ARE PLAYING IN TEXAS NO MATTER WHAT DIVISIONS THEY ARE IN!

Yeah, I've always thought that was a little odd. In the original Big 12 we were in a division with no Texas teams and we didn't consider it a problem.

I just want us in the same division as KU and Purple Kansas. Then we have a somewhat driveable away game at least.
