What irritates you on the highway?

When interstate construction requires closing one lane and everyone merges into the open lane a couple miles out, except a few geniuses that don't understand why nobody is in the open lane. Then the whole column has to slow down to let these jerks back into traffic.

Yeah, this is terrible. People just don't know how to merge. First, you are supposed to get up to speed to match the traffic. Find a gap and move on over. If there's no gap, then you might have to slow down ... but there's almost always a gap, IF you are going at the speed of the highway traffic.
Around here we have a couple of right turn lanes that become their own lane for a while after you turn, if that makes sense. In other words, you get in the lane, make the right turn, and you have a dedicated lane for you for some distance before the crossing traffic becomes a factor. So you don't have to yield, there's no yield sign, you can actually make that turn even if cars are coming on the cross street. People don't get that. They slow down, they stop, they wait for the traffic THAT ISN'T IN THEIR LANE.
You'd think they hand out drivers licenses in cereal boxes or something.

Actually, people are supposed to use both lanes up to the merge point, then "zipper" together. Traffic moves a lot better when that happens.
Now, does that ever happen? No. Humans use their common sense, they move over when the signs say a lane is closed ahead. Then we get mad at the people who "cut in line" by zipping up the open lane and cramming in ahead of us.
I move over early too, and I get mad at those guys as well. I do know people are supposed to use both lanes, until they can't. It just doesn't seem polite.

Cities have those food truck things, but I always assumed that the women did the cooking and the men did the driving.

That would make us both stop, then neither of us would get where we're going. I don't think that's going to be a win for you.
Look, you want to go 85 or 90, there's always the Richard Petty Driving Academy. Or Wyoming interstates. Help yourself.
My wife no longer visits our fair establishment due to one unfortunate incident where my attempts to publicly suck up to her were severely sabotaged by my fellow posters, so I can say anything I want (here). :smile:
Then theres the dbag that has to come to a complete stop and cut in because he didn't notice the signs for the last 5 miles telling him to come over.

This tops my list for sure; I call it a "moving roadblock". When I see this, I make a point to ride the offender's *** as closely as I can.
Interestingly, another peeve is when people ride my ***...but this is only because it's unjustified because I'm always right.
Number 2 is when people who don't use cruise control pass you and then slow way the **** down, requiring you to pass them...especially when it happens multiple times. I once had a guy pass me 7 times between Rockville and Germantown in MD, which are only about 10 miles apart.
Number 3 is when you absolutely need to get over into another lane and nobody will let you do it. People are awful about this on the East Coast.
Number 4 is when traffic converges or a lane is dropped and some ******* decides to drive on the shoulder and cut ahead of everyone.
Number 5 is when you're at an intersection waiting to turn, and the person behind you starts honking...as if they have some knowledge about the cross-traffic that you don't. If I'm not turning, it's probably because there's still traffic coming, jerk.
Just thinking about all of this gets my blood boiling.
Those are the ones I'm talking about. When people say you are supposed to use both lanes right up to the merge point, I suspect they are these people.
People thinking there is a fast lane/slow lane.
It's driving lane. And passing lane.
Pass in the passing lane...and then get back over into the driving lane.
People who don't drive the exact same way as me. Everyone's philosophy on interstate driving is different, and everyone thinks their way is the best way. Im not saying my way is the best or the most appropriate, but I personally like my way the best, so if you don't drive like me, I'm usually annoyed.
I drive from Ankeny to Nevada every day for work, and the best thing I ever did for myself was start taking back roads. I haven't been on I-35 in months. My blood pressure stays down, I get much better MPG, and I typically have better days!

its pretty hard to avg even 70mph on I-80 anymore with all the traffic, trucks, hills, etc. the left lane always seems pretty full and you just end up following the same car for miles, as opposed to passing and moving over.
i drove US-20 a few months back at 75mph and I don't think i touched the brake for 2-3 hours. it was so much easier than I-80.

This pisses me off too. Whenever this happens, I usually floor it and get as far ahead of them as possible so I don't have to see them anymore
