I think ten is the number for us, Clemson and Florida State is more than likely not coming aboard. Maybe I will be wrong.

I'm sorry but I've got to keep beating this drum; staying in the ACC makes no sense for FSU. Where's the money going to come from? The sweatheart Sun Sports deal UF has plus the ****ty ACC TV deal puts FSU behind UF to the tune of pushing 15 million dollars per year, right? I just don't see it. It behooves FSU to be in the B12 with the impeding playoff as well...
I believe it's already said FSU is leaving even if ND goes ACC, it's Clemson who will stay with ND coming.

The B12 can stay at 10 without any influence to expand due to the new playoff format. In fact, the new playoff format and its huge payouts may induce the B12 to stay at 10 schools and avoid the CCG. CCGs can end up costing the B12 and other conferences playoff bids.
^ exactly, the rules will change, and if the conference is included sitting at 10 teams, then its fine at 10 until that contract changes. Besides, I think it makes the big 12 look pretty stable to be happy sitting at 10, it gives the big 12 all the power when it comes to bringing in new teams. At one point, the big 12 needed teams to patch up holes left by the vacated teams, after the new TV contract and being included in the playoff, the conference can afford to be picky.

What happens if ACC, SEC, B1G, and Pac 12 go after the remains and go to 16 teams? Will 10 teams make the B12 one of the top four conferences in 2016?
If "remains" means Big East, MWC, etc. schools, none of the above conferences get stronger by adding those schools. Notre Dame is the only exception.
For example, the Pac 12 sure as heck doesn't get stronger by adding Boise St, San Diego State, BYU and Fresno St. The existing Pac 12 schools would take a TV contract pay cut by adding those schools.

If they all go to 16 and we stay at 10.. our SOS is a hell of a lot better than thiers increasing our chances of having two teams in the playoffs.
As we've seen in the past though, quality of football doesn't mean anything when keeping teams around.
If we can keep competitive TV Contracts with 10 teams we are fine, if other conferences look to go to 16 and that increases their revenue by a lot, then teams will gladly leave for the paycheck. What ends up making a conference viable is the amount on the check going to each team at the end of the year. It has very little to do with the quality of football on the field.
