MLB | Confirmed: Dempster being traded to Braves - Rotoworld.com

Mark Bowman of MLB.com has confirmed that Cubs righty Ryan Dempster is being dealt to the Braves.
Bowman is "hearing" that Randall Delgado will be sent to Chicago in return, but it sounds like talks are ongoing in regards to that piece of the puzzle. Dempster, 35, has posted a 2.11 ERA and 77/27 K/BB ratio in 98 innings (15 starts) this season for the last-place Cubs. His contract includes a no-trade clause but he was probably more than willing to join a contender like the Braves.

It wouldn't mind seeing Dempster see some success this year with the braves. Especially if it were to happen against the cards in the postseason.

This has been rumored for sometime, but the reason Dempster was willing to waive his no-trade is that he plans on re-signing with the Cubs next season. This seems to be one of the reason why the Cubs were struggling with a lot of teams because most teams didn't want to give up much for a guy who will more then likely only been with them for a few months.

It sounds like from what I have seen so far, that the Braves think they have a good shot at re-signing him next season. It will be interesting to watch!

Great deal for the Cubs, especially considering they will more than likely sign Dempster next year.

This is what I have seen in multiple places as well. Teams were wondering whether Dempster was a strong enough "rent-a-player" to give up major talent for, or whether his recent form is just temporary (I think it is).

As a Cubs fan, this is pretty much a steal for us. This season is a loss anyway in terms of getting into playoff contention - now we can get another young guy into the rotation for 2 months to gain experience. And ideally, we don't really lose Dempster long-term so we've got a solid 2nd or 3rd starter coming back next year. Plus - new young talent, almost for free.

I hope Demp comes back to the Cubs after the season is over. Such a good guy and is a great face for the organization.

Once Dempster wins the WS with the Braves he won't want to go back to the Cubs and finish in 4th place in the NL Central

Agree 100%. Dempster reminds of Kerry Wood. A Cub at heart who will do what is best for the organization short term but prefers to be in a Cubs uniform.

It's a good thing Selig is allowing 2 wild cards from each league this year, or this would never happen

Never happen? Come on man. You know the Braves in Chippers last season are going all the way!!!

Pfft, Old Man Jones is living on borrowed time. Prediction: Chipper' arthritis acts up or he forgets to take his medicine, goes to the DL, and the Braves dip below .500 before the year's over :jimlad:
