Definitely prefer the white background with cardinal & gold trim to the cardinal background with gold trim.

Went to the site several different times today using Firefox. Still shows the white space at the top (except for the page-turner thing in the upper right corner --ugh.)

If I can get this screenshot to show, it's how I would like the top of the page to look. This is for the top only, below what shows here is more white space and other areas that look like they should have something but don't.

Definitely gotta kill adblock programs and the like or the new page is pretty bare.

Websites which automatically play video when you open a page are annoying.

When there's video on the front page, 99% of the time the programmers and designers were probably strongly fighting against it but somebody with more power in the organization thought constantly running video would lead to BIIIIIIIIIIIIIILION$.

What a trainwreck of a website. I actually loved our old website, with the huge "Cyclones" in gold on a cardinal background. It was clean, simple, and neat (as far as athletic department websites go). This one has so much white (which is a great color for a website if you like staring at bright lights all day) and if it weren't for the giant ad at the top, it would have taken me a good 5-10 seconds to figure out this was the Iowa State Athletics webpage (it's very poorly labeled). Plus, the ".com" part of Cyclones.com looks straight out of 1992. Geez.

Don't get me wrong, it's still better than almost every website before the previous one.

Just give it time. Folks rarely like website changes when they first happen. I'm sure we'll get complaints when we launch too, and that's okay. Just give it a fair chance.

I like the new design. Much cleaner IMO and loads on my computer much, much faster.

Speaking of websites, did "Unrivaled" Cyclone Fanatic get pushed back a week? I could have sworn I saw just 2 days left on the counter yesterday...

EDIT: nevermind, I see the announcement now. I did a search for "unrivaled" earlier and it came up with nothing.

Love it!
Yep, a positive responce.
I know its an opinion page, no need to always be critical.
Looks good.
Can't wait till tomorrow for the player interviews.
Go CYCLONES.

Where they love the governor
First thing I saw was a giant "Pin Us" at the top. Ugh!

Actually, seems OK to me. Of course I'm rocking IE at work right now, we'll see how it looks when I'm running Chrome or FF at home...

It's beyond me that someone would redesign a site and not take into account Chrome and Firefox. I use Chrome and can't get to the links to see schedules, teams, purchase tickets, etc.

... Thinking of writing Jamie Pollard!

I like it. It has a lot of potential, especially once they clean it up a little bit.

I find that most people who complain about how much a website sucks likely have never designed a website from scratch.

Well, most people have never designed a website from scratch period. Why should their opinion not matter?

You don't design a website for the people who are web designers. You design it for ease of access of all users. Having something with a ton of scr!pts and things running is just stupid in this day and age of ad blockers. I've done plenty of web design and am working on redoing our company website. Clean and sharp >>>> loaded with colors/scr!pts/videos.

Honestly, it's pretty crappy when it doesn't work correctly on some browsers. On Chrome it looks absolutely horrible since half the objects don't work.

EDIT 1: Just loaded it into IEx64, and it looks like a completely different site. That's kind of sad.

EDIT 2: There are alt-texts that are put on the wrong links.

EDIT 3: I saw a ad for the OSU DVD that listed the wrong score.

I can continue if need be.

What it means is a website isn't going to work perfectly on every single browser upon rollout, no matter how long you hold it out and perfect it. Sometimes bugs don't reveal themselves until it goes live. I'm saying that those people who are saying that "they didn't design this site with Chrome users in mind" probably haven't designed sites for those reasons I mentioned earlier. The web designers didn't ignore Chrome users, and to suggest such is ignorant. The bugs will be worked out in all browsers - they just need to be found first.

I'm not say they didn't think of Chrome users, but the fact that they released it for everyone without it being ready for everyone is probably a poor idea. When half the page doesn't load for a big-market-share browser, that's a pretty big oversight.

It's not like back in the day when IE was practically the only browser used. It's a much more even split nowadays, and they should prepare for that.

It worked fine for me with basically stock versions of both Chrome and IE. Firefox is my main browser and my ad/s-c-r-i-p-t blockers play havoc with it, but if I turn them off it works fine.

The giant Iowa State add at the top of the page with the wrong color red is what really bugs me, along with the stupid pin us/like us/follow us crap in the corner.

Still not working right for me in Chrome, and I'm not taking off adblockers to view this website. The one thing that really bothers me is the sloppy looking text. I've tried re-sizing the page, but it doesn't help.

I just logged on to that same page and the font/print is perfectly clear and neat.
