laptop advice?

also an old computer with old software will just give you headaches - they seem to intentionally make software updates to make older hardward obsolete. Would probably look for something newer - likely PC considering the budget - I bought my kids older Macs and they are garbage now due to incompatibility of newer software and browsers vs the hardware

Not a bad choice. You can get a better Ultrabook for a few hundred less with more features but if you really like Apple than it's a good choice.

I consider the Ipad to be the best tablet made period.

I consider the Iphone to be just an average smartphone

I think the Mac Book Air is somewhat in the middle but probably closer to the top.

If you've been happy with the Iphone than you're probably going to like the mac book air. I guess the biggest question is what are you going to do on it that you can't do on the Ipad? Does it replace a desktop?

this is a fact. ever heard of the lightbulb theory? planned obsolescence man, why would we buy more stuff if the old one is still good?

I'm pretty sure if its 2005 or earlier its not a MacBook, it'd be an iBook. I'd avoid that even moreso. I wouldn't ever go with a laptop that's 5+ years old. Too liable to have problems and its just way behind the development curve on everything from hardware to software(OS included).

As others have said, a tablet would be an option as well. It comes down to a portability vs. power and function argument.

power and function far outweigh portability for me. it is essentially going to be the TV for my house.

Are you going to attach it to a TV or watch everything on the laptop?

i live on a tiny isolated campus where we cannot get cable in any facet. the digital bunny ears don't even work out here. so i need to watch sports, tv, etc via the internet. i could attach it to my tv, but wouldn't gain much as it is an older tv that isn't all that big.
