I agree that the volume was a little too low. But the thing I disliked the most about the sound was that it seemed like they had microphones on the drumline and would pump it through the sound system at various times. I heard alot of echoes and feedback as a result.

Lower level, west side, section 11 (about the south 30 yard line). Couldn't hear a darn thing most of the game. None of the PA voice made it to us at all - the announcements of the volleyball team, the kid captains, the Marine hero of the game - nothing. Couldn't hear it at all.

The starting lineups audio was fine, and Sweet Caroline was okay (once the WIU band stopped playing, anyway). So it's obvious they can and do make some volume adjustments. I realize it's going to be lots louder in the upper deck, but the lower deck needs to able to hear something.

Section B opinion. It was too loud for Tulsa, period. Last night, definitely could have been louder and been OK. Like someone said, somewhere between Tulsa and W.Ill levels would be about right.

I think it will be tough to get it so the folks on south side can hear well, without blasting the north siders. Although wind conditions matter - south wind will depress and north wind will push it.

And the donors are in between, they will tell JP what to do with the remote control.

WRT extra south speakers, didn't we used to have that and it produced a weird echo effect?

I couldn't hear a thing last night. It was a bad experience.

It's time to stop having media staff jack around to tinker with it and bring in professionals.

Sat towards the north end of the stadium and it was way too quiet. Sounded like a lot of the players were also complaining that it was too quiet.

Couldn't hear it at all in section 17. My friend's son couldn't even hear the sirens after touchdowns and was disappointed about it.

Too quiet.

They just need to control it better. Things like the Beef tailgate thing, Case IH Redzone Alert, the racing games, etc don't need to be ear piercing. Those are too loud, I agree.

Pumping music before a 3rd down, pumping music on a kickoff, etc.....no such thing as too loud here! It's our home field, we invested big bucks into the thing, let's use it to help get the place rockin!

Volume was perfect in upper deck West Side. Speakers need to be pointed down if there are problems. Dozens of people around me were thanking God and Jamie because of the relief!

I think it was just about perfect for volume. Maybe a touch louder, but mostly they just need to get the speakers aligned correctly so it doesn't have to kill the eardrums of the folks in the upper deck so the fans in the lower sections can hear it. Music was a lot louder during pregame than when the crowd filled in. Maybe louder volume needed as more bodies are present to deaden the sound? Less when things are empty...

People around me didn't complain about the sound being too loud or soft, but they were complaining that after the reserves came in we didn't hear any "Another Cyclone FIRST DOWN" from the announcer. WTF? It's like we put in the subs and that was time for a coffee break or something. We want to hear that all game for all the guys!

My preference though would be for the fans to be making the noise, not the speakers. During OK State game last year I don't remember much music over the crowd noise, until Sweet Caroline.

I'm going to say this: If they ever play Sandstorm after a huge play, they better freakin blast the **** out of those speakers. Playing Sandstorm on a lower volume is against the law in all 50 states.

This is the version you would like them to play, right? :jimlad:

I would prefer to never hear that again. It makes our fan base seem completely uneducated about football and that we need to be told when to cheer.

Looking over posts on this board, and the other one it is clear there are some preconceived opinions on this topic that do not allow it to be discussed in a more realistic manner. I would suggest the facts are not likely being fully addressed. IMHO

1. It was way to quiet last night and they maybe turned it down to far. (at least where I was sitting. However, some in the upper deck are saying it was ok. The sweet spot may be a little more volume and mixing (and speaker direction as Chip has posted.

3. From personal experience, and more importantly seeing the comments here on the loudness from the prior game (and knowing the posters, it is clear that there was an sound problem in certain sections. No one hear knows the numbers and if it "was, or was not a vocal minority or old farts that complained". However for that many people to complain (esp in the upper deck), across age groups there clearly was a problem. To dismiss it as old folks or a minority complaining does not do justice to the topic, it is just a way to dismiss legitimate conversation.

4. Actually, since they turned it down so far (imho), you have to wonder if it was a large amount of complaints and someone was almost skittish on turning it up yesterday to avoid getting in trouble.. Right or wrong that tends to say it was a larger problem that just a few people complaining. When you hear reports of people in pain, it tends to say there is a mixing, volume or equalization situation.

5. The good news is it that this can be fixed and fine tuned. However, at the risk of upsetting anyone, when someone says just crank it or stay home. Do we really want to be saying that to paying Cyclone fans. It is not church, but it is also not a rock concert.

6. I feel Jamie's frustration as it is either shoot me now or shoot me later (an old farts cartoon reference!)

7. Agree or disagree, thank you for reading.

Perhaps the overall speaker design is wrong in putting the speakers up in the board.

If the speakers are in the videoboard, then it is too noisy in that endzone and too quiet in the other endzone. Maybe they need more speakers than just in the videoboard. The sound was fine down by the videoboard.

I think it'd be better if we just took out all the rock and rap stuff that they play now and replace it with some nice Smooth Jazz, maybe a little adult easy listening but not until the second half at least.

Maybe we could just get a set of these (Think they have a record player, or a tape player input on that thing?)

I've got an old Zenith floor console that's got a turntable AND an 8-track on it, and I'm willing to donate it to ISU for priority seating considerations. It's got cable input jacks for a boombox if you've got cassettes you need to play too.
