When you lose 3 of you top scorers one who was your PG, one was a first round pic, and have questions around your other PG you prob wont get much respect. Its not like last years team made a run deep in the tourny and only lost one player.

Preseason BB rankings dont mean anything.

I think Clyburn is under the radar due to Utah being pretty much awful, combine that with losing Royce and Scotty and I could see how ISU is left off, I don't agree, but its amazing how little research goes into preseason stuff. Oh well, you don't have to rated to make the NCAA tourney.

If I was doing a preseason ranking, I'd give ISU a few votes.

But let's look at the practical, earn-the-respect side of it: UNLV is @ No. 19.

Iowa State has a chance to face UNLV in the Global Sports Classic.

Win that, and votes may begin to accumulate.

Preseason polls are a joke. Rarely do you ever see the preseason #1 be the true national championship anyway. ISU not getting a vote in the polls doesn't concern me at all. I don't really look at the polls until conference season starts anyway. By then we'll see how well or how bad teams have played.

Last year pretty much was all Royce White. Let's be honest. I can understand people being cautious. It's ridiculous for ISU to be picked worse than 6th or 7th but I get it. I'm in "wait and see" mode myself. Mostly because the Big 12 is so good and now WVU is in the mix.

I have total faith in CFH, but it kind of makes sense for national outlets to still be unsure about whether we were a one-hit wonder or not.

The top 25 poll means virtually nothing. The selection committee does not use it at all for deciding who is in the tournament, so it truly means nothing in terms of how it will effect Iowa State's season.

Yeah I don't think we should be receiving any votes that would be a major stretch. Our front court is a major concern with only Ejim proving his worth in there thus far. Booker and Percy have been alright on one end or the other but haven't put it together on both ends of the court. Niang, Clyburn, and Lucious have yet to step on the court for the first time for a real game. You can speculate and say we should be at least getting votes but how many other teams out there would say the same thing? I bet most teams don't have to replace their three most productive players.

Well most people thought the transfer thing was gonna fail last year. We proved them wrong. Most national outlets think it was a fluke other than CFH doing his job. I for one would be skeptical myself if I were a national media person with no ties/connections to ISU...

It's hard to blame them. We lost all of our scoring from last year and the new guys haven't proved themselves yet. There still seems to be a lot of optimism about the future of our program in the media, and that itself is pretty exciting.

Was going to leave this thread alone, but it keeps popping upta the top of my page.

How long have some of you been cyclone fans? It's time to get past the ERRHHHMAGERRRDDDD, NUHHHH RASPECCCKK!!! stage.

Hypothetically:

A team is ranked #1 in preseason polls and doesn't make the tourney...what do they get?
A team is picked to finish last in their conference and makes a good run in the tourney....what do they get?

Answer both of those, and tell me what preseason polls mean.

Look at football, we are always the underdog, and we have been on the upset watch list for that Ubben guy on ESPN Big 12 blog for damn near the whole season. We can be picked by the 'experts' to not win a gawd dammed game and I don't care as long as we actually do well.

Meh. If I didn't follow the program closely I probably wouldn't vote for ISU in the preseason rankings either. The surface view is that they should be significantly worse after losing a truly dynamic big man and their best two perimeter threats. Once the newcomers get comfortable on the court, the success and respect will come.

We started getting some national attention last year with RW and Hoiberg. Our weak preconference schedule wont help us much, but if we roll through it and beat the few good teams we play, we'll get that respect you so desperately need.

Losing Royce, Scotty and Allen is a big loss from last year's team. We have a lot of guys who are going to need to take on bigger roles than they previously have, so not a shock that we didn't receive any votes. Last season's success should help us get in the polls quicker this year if we get off to a good start.

ISU not getting any votes? Do all voters think last year was all about Royce? Color me Cardinal and Gold, but, I expect our FH team to be in the Dance every year and to challenge for a Sweet Sixteen spot.

I'd have been surprised if we had gotten votes unless it was from a midwest/local voter. If I was an outsider I wouldn't expect much from this team.

the coaches poll is meaningless, we all know coaches don't have time to follow everyone and likely spend somewhere between 17 and 42 seconds filling out the rankings.

the preseason AP poll actually has a lot of predictive value - take it from the stats expert himself.

Were we not picked 8th by the Big 12 media? That is worse than not receiving any top-25 votes in my opinion. That should adequately **** off everyone associated with ISU basketball. Can't wait for the season to start.
