.500 and being in the bottom 1/3rd of the conference will be the ceiling. I'm not saying fire CPR because historically we've been worse than that more times than not.

I really see no breakout season at this point. We're very likely going to suck again next year at QB. Unless one of our incoming QB's is good, we're not going to keep up with B12 teams offensively in the near future.

I see no signs of improved recruiting, unfortunately. If we are going to get 2 stars with no other BCS offers and develop them into winning football players, we should probably switch to a different style of offense, because we won't succeed in this conference running the same scheme that most of the rest of the teams run (minus the explosive athletes).

People never want to believe it and love to point to the exception but there is generally a reason why our recruits don't have BCS offers. Recruiting needs to improve, especially at QB.

This defense is loaded with no names out of high school. The problem is the no names playing offensive line and quarterback are not good.

To be completely honest, being a .500 team in this conference with lower tier bowl trips 3/4 years is good enough considering all of our geographic/demographic disadvantages. However, it would be nice if we could catch lighting in a bottle ala KU with Reesing every once in a while.

Every bottom dwelling team in the Big 12 has gone on a run in the past decade except for us. We are due aren't we? The only problem I see is that all those teams (Mizzou, KU, Baylor, Okie State) have had excellent QB play during those runs. That's what's missing for us, obviously.

I don't understand why a snot-nosed stud 18-year-old QB would rather go somewhere, sit in a sysem, and hopefully play 1 or 2 years (or ride the bench, like will happen with Walsh upon Lunt's retun) instead of coming to ISU to step in and lead the offense for 3 or 4 years.

THIS. Completely agree. Congrats Walsh on your steller performance but have fun going back to the bench for the next 4 seasons.

It's amazing how low my expectations have been for our QB's over the past years ever since...hell...Seneca. And while Meyer, Arnaud, Jantz, Barnett have all had moments. We just aren't getting better at this postion, we're getting worse. It's just bad that I would take any other Big 12 team's starting QB (other than maybe KU) and quite a few of the team's backups as well over our latest QB's.

Gotta recruit better and it is perplexing why a kid would wanna go elsewhere. Think how beloved a 4 year starting stud QB would be here at ISU rather than riding the pine somewhere else. We're a team who needs to get over a hump to get out of mediocrity and above average (not even dominant) QB play would be enough to get us to 8+ win seasons. but I think for now we are stuck with hoping we can right the ship even just enough to get to a bowl game @ 6 wins and hope you win #7 so you don't end up under .500

Just because you're too blind and stupid to see it, doesn't make it so.

Wish we could have hit a Seneca with our better defense and skill players this year.

It's perplexing? Kids want to win, and ISU hasn't done that enough over the past 25 years. We've had one "good" season where we went 8-3 with a bowl win. And even that wasn't a high-profile bowl due to the Big 12's poor bowl structure. Northwestern is located in a major metro area and went to the Rose Bowl and never turned that into extended success either. We'll have to establish ourselves as an average team before we can really start looking to make another move to a consistently good team (I'm talking the top 40 - top 20). We're still trying to prove we belong in the top 60. We haven't played at that level for a full season yet.

its kind of a chicken or the egg thing..

each time we recruit a player who isn't 4 stars, comments ensue, "we won't recruit highly rated players until we win more games"
