I knew this was gonna happen today. I was just saying to a friend the other day that we need a Tim Couch like guy. Some kid that is a 5-star QB from this state that turns down all the big-time schools to play for us. I can't think of one QB we have faced the last to years that have been worse than ours. I bet Western Illinois had a better QB than what we had out there. I find it very strange that the staff didn't notice that Jared Barnett didnt have a D1 arm when they recruited him. Go State!

Gosh I agree with OP it's time to start going out and getting better players at this point I really don't care what it takes give them cars build the sez what ever the product on the field is sub par. Your telling me that we can't go out and find a serviceable qb. Got to find something!

Barnett's been good enough to go 4-5 in the B12. That's a guy that can win at the D1 level.

What ISU needs to do is recruit the typical low major 3-star QB every year and pray that one out of every 4 finds a way to jump above his station

Let's also remember that Bill Snyder built KSU into a "football power" back when the B8 consisted of Nebraska, CU and 6 average or below teams (OU was down at that time). The B8 had very lax standards for recruiting prop 48 players. Not to mention KSU had the perfect situation to pick from a JUCO pipeline right in their backyard. Outside of Nebby and OU most B8 schools had pretty sub standard facilities.

Snyder faced 7 conference games each year, only 2 of which were highly regarded teams and padded his OOC slate with 4 sure wins.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that CPR has a way harder road now with 9 conference game (many tougher football schools than in the 80's/early 90's) + Iowa every year.

.500 for us now is comparable to going 7-4 or 8-3 back then with an 11 game schedule.

Nailed it. Now to editorialize... some fans that love Paw Woads will hasten his departure by demanding 8 wins with 4 win talent. It's not getting easier to win in CFB. Courtney has owned as a WR, TE, and special teams coach and he just gets hate in his first year as OC. We don't have many advantages that we can control, but continuity is one.

A great offensive line can make an average QB look pretty good. A bad offensive line can make a great QB look terrible. Having a great offensive line does so many things for the QB.

I agree college football boils down to "Who Can You Recruit", and the best teams always have the best players and do the majority of the Winning.

Quoting Former Coach Earle Bruce: You can't play what you Can't Recruit.

Thats just life boys and I also think that CPR is doing the best in a very tough southern oriented football league with the northern most school in the league.

We fans want better recruits and dont ya think the coach does as well? (duh.) It is hard to recruit elite or even a four star kid to Ames, Ia because we have not had sustained winning and the fact that we are the northern most school in a south heavy conference. Aside from that we did not have very good facilities either it has gotten a lot better lately just at a slow pace.

The SEZ needs to happen sooner than later when recruiting a high end player and he visits its hard for them to imagine what the SEZ would look like when its not there to look as some say "big time." Now with the new football only facility that will help get better players because well its there for the eyes to see and the senses to come alive. We also do not have strong QB play or a very strong OC either so that has to change. So the offense needs to play according to who we have as players not saying this cannot be successful it can and not saying we do not have good players we do, but the coaching needs to get better as well to put all the pieces together to have success.

Other only answer is I guess start cheating like the big boys, but we have morals here ( I hope.) Also I will add into the mix how about Sage be the QB coach?
