I was rewatching the game this morning and holy carp was that an egregiously bad call by the officials. And it led directly to a score by Oklahoma State. Can anybody explain to me how that was anywhere close to being a personal foul?

Wasn't there an equally bad one early against K-State? I think it was called against Broomfield, even though the play came to him.

I thought he clearly contacted him shoulder pad to shoulder pad but the helmet did touch the bottom of the facemask after contact. The official on the end line was masked from where the shoulder pads collided as it was on the field side. I thought it was a bad call but my brother thought it was the right call. We agreed that the no call the other way around later in the game was definitely a missed call. Brutal helmet to helmet and the ref couldn't find his hanky.

the only thing I can think of is that the ref had a bad angle and it looked to him like it was a head to head hit, but yeah that was a pretty bad call. Klein's "holding" penalty on the same drive was also pretty bad.

Yes, both those calls were really bad.

The holding call on Klein was much worse. At least there was something to look at on the targeting call. There was NOTHING on that holding call. Refs clearly handed them 7 on that drive.

The worst call was the no call on the PI later in the game. Guy completely turned our receive around before the ball was even close.

Also saw a play on the highlights on cyclones.tv and one of our DL did strip randell before the whistle blew.. It was clear on the video... but oh well.. dont think these calls would have really mattered.. other then maybe I would have covered on my 14.5 wager...

The refs have done us no favors in the B12 conference this year. I suggest we are a few calls to the bad side overall. It is like we are not a team from Texas or Oklahoma so we get the shaft. It should be interesting for the ref calls in our WVU game.

Yeah, that was a pure pathetic call. The ref has no defense except poor vision and decision making

Both calls were horrible and a lot of you know I'll defend officials because I am one (basketball) but both of those calls were indefensible and they were made by the same official.

The targeting call was a joke. The holding on AK47 was even worse. Not only did he not hold, I'm not even sure he TOUCHED him.

I always tell new officials, I'd rather apologize to a coach for not seeing something than guess and call something that didn't happen.

I'd say the call on Broomfield for the KSU game was a bad call....he clearly lead with pads and hit the guy square in the chest. The Okie Light call against Washington was a bit more likely to get called as the ball had passed and he did go for the head area more....I just didn't like that one as if I remember right it was on 3rd down on an incomplete pass.

3rd and 9 from the 20 if I remember correctly.

Zach Spears said on twitter that the targeting call was the right call. Basically, if the guy doesn't make the catch, you have to show SOME attempt to let up or peel off and not continue to go with the hit 100%. It also looked like Rhoads didn't have issue with it at the time.

Holding on Klein was awful. The targeting call sucks but it will get called 9 out of 10 times anymore. If you are gonna light a guy up on a pass play you better hope he catches the ball first because if he doesn't you are gonna get the flag even if you lead with a shoulder.

Correct, if you aim to hit a receiver high (chest and above) and the ball is past, you're setting yourself up to get called for it. Helmet to helmet has nothing to do with it so those implying that are incorrect.

Thank you for this! I wasn't even sure what targeting WAS prior to this post.

It didnt get called on the OKie lite vs Ernie Brun later in the game......must have been the 10th play.

Also, I call BS on people not thinking that bad calls don't matter, much less 2 bad calls on same drive. When our defense gets backed up to our end zone, that it is when they tighten things up and calls matter the most. The way that Okie was kicking early on, those calls cost us 3 to 7 points, not to mention momentum. Probably same people whining when players show some emotion. Some one needs to man up, and take on some leadership roles.
