I'll add that you almost kind of feel like you got a glimpse of what Rhoads was like 20 years ago. Hopefully, Jake will have a long, long NFL career, but when he is finished he certainly looks like he has the makings of a coach.

Just watched the replay. It brought tears to my eyes. Can't wait to watch him on Sundays.

Wow. That was tough to watch. As others have posted, I hope he has a long and healthy pro career, but would love to see him back at ISU as a coach.

Really difficult watch and yet I felt a lot of pride. What a great, great young man. I know he is real sad now but he is going to go on to great things.

This is the kind of guy you want associated with your program for a lifetime. I could see him being our head coach one day.

I also felt a bit better after watching it (of course this has been seriously dragging me down for a week now, I never knew quite how invested I was in Jake Knott!). Because all week I've wondered how exactly we were going to make up for his loss on the team. Obviously, our defense is really, really good, so if we were going to lose an all Big 12 player it's better that it is at a position where we have another all Big 12 player, but it is still kind of scary wondering where the production will come from. But then I heard him talk about how he is going to be a coach out there. So surely he can transfer his skills to the other guys, right?!

I listened to it on KXNO, gotta love the heart Jake has, made ya misty driving down the road. My favorite part was that a 22 year old spoke for 5 minutes and didn't say "whatnot".

Like a Fred Hoiberg for football. I like it.

yeah, i was teary.

Stupid question maybe but why wouldnt he talk more specifically about the injury? I know its not required and its his right to privacy. I assume the NFL will have access to his records so it will come out eventually right?

I'm guessing that it had something to do with the NFL. Maybe they don't want people to do a lot of digging about the type of injury he had before they can talk to the doctors that treat him and most likely see that he is tough and heals pretty good.

As much as I love Jake, the injury thing is probably going to hurt him more than it should in the draft. Which it sholdn't because the guy was still one of hte best players on teh field Saturday with no pain killers and a bum shoulder. So I think he probably has to keep pretty quiet about the injury and deal with team's questions about it on an individual basis.

But I loved his answer, "not even close. It's a dream come true to be here".......You're awesome Jake!

Yeah, I kind of loved the question. It was stupid, but as an Iowa State player you have to deal with stupid Hawks. :)

I've been over on Hawkeye Nation today fueling the fire with the Rhoads to Auburn crap. And I read a bit of the Jake thread. All were nice, but more than one tried to claim that Iowa was going to let him play baseball AND football and that they were just waiting on another guy when Rhoads came in and took him. This was the first I had heard that. And I highly doubt it is true b/c Iowa isn't going to let a FB player play both sports.

I've only gotten misty over two sporting related news stories. This and the day walter payton died.
