I really hope coach PR will make some changes.

The OL is fine. We continually throw the ball when we are clearly more of a running team. We ran 3 plays in a row on the ground and picked up about 18 yards. Then threw that deep ball for no reason on a 2nd and 4. Where is the logic?

The logic was there, the throw wasn't. Make them respect the run and then take a shot. Just a completely awful read and throw by Steele.

I don't think you can change the offense yet..if it's still the same old story next year, I'd say you can. But next year will be a lot of young guys that have been completely brought here to run this offense, and that's why I hate the idea of changing it.

It has been the same old story for 4 years now. Even worse in Year 4. I hate this entire offensive system.

Just my .02 from this miserable game today...
1. As has been mentioned but we saw at the forefront of the problem today IMO, recruiting, how many times I heard "true freshman" from Texas players making plays...we know it's a fact 4 and 5stars build high level programs, but we are going to get those level of guys someday I'm certain of that, just a matter of when. We are building our program, getting the bowl games, facilities are close if not already there now lets land a few 4s and get moving up the big 12 ladder.
2. IMO I don't think Steele has a long leash in terms of checking at the line of scrimmage, right or wrong...
3. OC has to be re-evaluated, but even with that, "systems" don't work without "players" and players don't work without systems to maximize their talent, hopefully we find that mesh sooner rather than later!
4. Lastly our culture, myself included wants instant results no matter what it is, but we need to stick with CPR and we will get there! Go clones!

I completely disagree and think that the DL has played much improved over any of the other groups. The DB's have done much better getting INT's but the DL has really stopped most teams running games. They have also gotten more sacks this year against the second level O-lines. Not even Alabama's front four get many sacks playing base defense every down.

What about today? I think they only had one or two QB hurries, no sacks.

If it was a system that worked, wouldn't that be a good thing?
Of course, but I think few coaches could implement a system that worked in their first year. It would take time. Now I suck at seeing when a coach should be fired so I'm glad I'm not making that decision but I just think some people are moving too quickly. While this system might not be great right now it could get better and it's also not entirely his fault. If your QB can't make easy throws then it doesn't matter how great your play calling is. Also, I think too often we think of what could go right with a decision and not what could go wrong. If it doesn't work out we've just dug a deeper hole.

When you have recievers that cannot get open, drop balls, have no yards after catch and are not smart enough to run their routes past the first down marker how is changing coaches really going to make this better. When you have a line that cannot block how is a coaching change going to make a huge difference. Can chanages in coaches help, somewhat maybe, but when there isnt the talent to compete vs the big boys the only thing you can do is get more talent.

Texas blitzed practically every play because they are absolutely not afraid of our receivers. Same reason OU played mostly press coverage last week. Jantz is not a very consistent qb but the windows he is throwing into are relatively tiny especially if you are turnover adverse. You can't coach speed and size, most teams we go against have receivers with both. We have quick short guys. I have high hopes for Brundrage though.

Juco recruiting time? It would be nice to have a Shipley type as a threat. The last threats we had to me was Colin Franklin and maybe Josh Lenz who could catch the tough throws.

This... after watching a day full of college football I realized how incredibly below average our wide receivers are... I saw alotta receivers make some stellar plays on the ball... we dont have that, maybe brundrage after some more development....

When was the last time we fired the coordinator?
Dumb post.
I thought it was implied that I don't want that to become the situation. I'm not saying that it has started to happen only that it could. But let's assume we do fire Mess and bring in someone new. The offense doesn't get better. Do you fire the new coach? If not, why not? Also, by that point we will have had three different OC's in three years which I don't think is good for the offense. I'm not saying we never fire Mess, just that this should not be the year and that the blame cannot fall entirely on his shoulders.

The thing is the scheme hasn't changed, and fans have been patient waiting for coaches to get players in who fit the scheme. We should have that at this point.

we just dont have the players
We don't have any less talent than we did two seasons ago when we won down there. The difference is we had a better quarterback or a quarterback with a pulse for that matter.

Fair enough. I'm just fairly cautious as a person and was more responding to the point that my post was "dumb". I understand what you're saying, it's just I would wait another year before I fire a coach. I don't think one year is enough time.

We have no (known) QB.
When that changes, we'll see how things look.

Most of the things you mention are things the coaches SHOULD be teaching them. You cannot teach speed, but you can teach getting open, catching balls, smart route running etc.

Speed is key to getting open. You can do all the fancy **** you want but if you are half a step slow it is hard to get open. You can teach all you want about running routes deep enough but you cannot make a player run it deep enough in a game. If you have bad hands you have bad hands.

This team does well when playing good talent. When they play great talent they struggle.
