I really hope coach PR will make some changes.

Once again, we were very effective running the ball and went away from it far too soon.

Mess is the problem.
Ding ding ding we have a winner!!!! For crying out loud even I knew not to go away from the run and thats saying something. WTF is Mess doing?

I'm thinking Mess is probably getting an earful. At the half Rhoads said he was happy we had over 100 yards rushing and expected over 200 yards rushing by the end of the game. What happened? We left the run for the pass way too early and finished with 144 yards on the ground.

While I agree the run was working adn would have liked to see us run more, the fact is we were in a hole and needed to score quickly to try to catch up. You do that by passing and not running.

So to answer your question "WTF is Mess doing?", he was trying to get us some quick scores rather than grinding out drives for scores and thus running out of time.

That premise or plan would have been valid if we had any suggestion we could pass. The key to getting out of the hole is having success, not punting.

Had success running the ball and giving our D a breather moving the chains. Yes we were in a hole, but if something is working stick with it maybe you rip of big chunks of yards running the ball and if they adjust pass to the sidelines to gain yardage and stopping the clock. Rhoads even said he wanted to stick with the run at halftime did he not? The offense is killing us and it starts with who runs the offense.

In my opinion...This team is built to be a pass first football team. They want to go fast and not allow the defense to sub. They want to run the short passes and allow the receivers to make a play (yards after catch) and then hit the deep ball after the defense starts to creep up. They want to run the quick hitters in the run game that gives the RBs a chance to break a long run.

This is why you need a QB who is accurate, smart, and a threat to take off and run. Someone who is smart enough to check to a hot-route if a blitz is coming or to make the correct read on the zone-read run plays. This would open up the offense like you would not believe. We are not that far away, just need better execution and decision making!

I haven't read through the whole thread, but you have to look at who we are playing IMO. Seems like we are taking on ranked teams every week. C-Dub was pretty high on Texas' defense at the start of the season. They tanked a bit against OU and WV, but they are showing the past few games that they are good. We scored 35 points against Baylor. OU and Texas defenses are lightyears above Baylor, but KU and WV are NOT. As an aside, I also think we miss Knott a heck of a lot.

I actually feel pretty good about winning out. People are always too down on the team when we lose and too high when we win. Yeah we've lost the last 2 games but they were against Oklahoma and at Texas. That will make a lot of teams look bad. Kansas is improving but they aren't Oklahoma or Texas. Kansas has played everyone close but they've also found ways to lose. Yes, this game scares me, but I still think we win.

We do miss Knott, but this offense is just not executing and getting the job done. I know this conference is tough as nails, but to only score a touchdown man that is just not going to get r done.

Our offense is what it is. Our defense is no longer as dominant as it was. Losing Knott seems to have lost us our mojo. I don't see nearly as much of a "swarm and punish" mentality. Piles are moving the wrong way more often.

Really, we've done nothing more than beat the teams we're supposed to beat and lose to the team's we're supposed to lose to this year. TCU is kind of the one aberration, and that is pretty easily explained by catching them at the perfect time on their schedule. OU and Texas losses are nothing to be worked up over as they look like the #2 and #3 teams in the conference as the season winds down. Texas Tech is less disappointing in retrospect as they've sort of emerged as good second-tier conference team this year. No shame in losing to K-State, it just sucks because we had our chances in that game and couldn't get over the hump.

The last game of the year will clear up whether West Virginia or Iowa State are the 7th best team in the conference, which honestly is probably a spot or two better than most would have pegged us. On paper and with perspective, this is not a disappointing season. It's the ebbs and flows of the season that make it seem like we've drastically under-acheived.

YOu are aware we are losing to some of the best teams in the coungtry right? Iowa, Tulsa and Western Illinois are not walking into Jack Trice this time of year.

We have lost to:

#1 K-State
#12 Oklahoma
#15 Texas
#23 Texas Tech
#24 Oklahoma State

And beaten everyone else, including Tulsa who is 8-2.

And we hold everyone below their scoring average.

Seems to me to be a matter of game plan and adjustments on offense. Seems too much like last year.

What sucks is that if we play as well as we did vs Kstate vs basically any of those other teams we lost to we would have won that game. Wasted a great effort on a close loss and have only seen that good of an effort vs Baylor since.

Everyone in the league plays each other. ISU is now dead last in the conference in offense, dead last! ISU only scores 4 more points/game than Kansas. We are 9 points per game away from #8 in the conference. Teams look to improve their defensive #'s when they play ISU. Baylor improved by playing ISU! Everyone else seems to be moving the ball in conference outside of ISU and Kansas. This should tell you something.
